Title: Steam to Ride the Rails Again
Post by: jbroadglide on July 01, 2010, 02:46:58 PM
This is not Jacksonville related but for all those on the board, like me, who are fans of steam locomotives. NS says its working on plans to bring steam excursion trains back again.

Doesn't sound like they will be doing the old Jax to Waycross trip but it could still be within a days drive. I have very fond memories of chasing 611J and 1218A from Jax to Wax and back.

Anyone who's a fan of steam trains and may find themselves in Virginia, I cannot recommend enough the O. Winston Link Museum and the Virginia Museum of Transportation (where the 611 and 1218 are on display) in Roanoke.

I'll be stopping at the museum on my way to upstate New York in October for my 40th class reunion. 611 and 1218 are on my agenda. Roanoke is almost exactly, to the mile, half way.
