Title: Interactive Feature - Where Americans Are Moving
Post by: finehoe on June 16, 2010, 04:32:14 PM
More than 10 million Americans moved from one county to another during 2008. The map at the link below visualizes those moves. Click on any county to see comings and goings: black lines indicate net inward movement, red lines net outward movement.

That's a whole lot of outward and not much inward :(

That is fascinating. It is interesting to see how different parts of the country migrate or don’t migrate. If you click on someplace like Torrance County, NM, no one has moved more then one county away.

No major surprises.  Most in-migration appears to be from the Northeast, South Florida, and Midwest.  Heaviest outbound is to Norfolk and San Diego areas, both probably driven by Navy transfers. Patterns would have been clearer if "metro" areas, rather than counties were presented.
