buwahahaha!
... and it is Lane Ave. not Lanes Ave.
just kidding...hey JC... LOVE the Avatar! Are you trying to say that BP has an "oily" image ;)?
I knew both of these... and btw where the Wallmarks is on Lanes Ave?
While we're on the subject - have we been pronouncing Cassat Ave. properly all this time?
We all say CASS-it, but was it supposed to be said like keh-SAHT (like a VW Passat)??
Good Question CD... I always heard it was KASS-IT ...is it pronounced like Cassette?
I've always heard KASS - it ...
You learn something every day.
Hopefully....But I do know I never found the Wallmark on Lanes or Dunns Ave.
sorry.... I ll stop. :)
Also, Herschel is a family name--it is not her-SHELL, but HERSH-ull.
Amen, sister!
I wasn't too sure on Herschel, but thankfully i've been saying it the right way. Hersh-ull.
Near my work in Southpoint, I'm always hearing people say BO-den road instead of Bowden. But that doesn't irk me as much as when people pluralize street names for no reason. Dunns, Moncriefs...JTBs even!
I've been on the flip side of this situation though, at least on the pronouncation part when traveling out of town. I once asked where Houston st was in NYC and was light-heartedly mocked by the locals "It's pronounced House-ton" they said. and once I asked for a train ticket to "Arlington, Mass" when I should've said "Aaahhlington"
If I had asked "which way is Houstons st ? " though, I don't think they would've helped me.
And while we are on the subject, its PUBLIC Service, not PUBIC Service.. ::)
:o
Now I see it, which one of you pranksters took out the L? haha.
Isn't there an Outbacks on Dunns Avenue?
I think there's an Outbacks and a Barnes & Nobles. I wish they'd put in a Barnes & Nobles at the Landings, that would be great. A Barnes & Nobles and a Krystals, that would really be something!
Good luck on Herschel. I don't think anyone will pronounce it Her-Shull. I always assumed Houston St was pronounced like the city, leave it to NYC-ers to add in a random nonexistent E to make it House-ton.
LOL me and friend joke about this everyday. I stayed on Dunn Ave for about 5 years and I called it "dUnn's" ave. Until one day I looked at the sign and the sign and said " holy crap it's DUNN ave." LOL
I have another. The Laquinta Inn. For years I was pronouncing it just how it looks, but after seeing a commercial and they said " La-kean-ta", I was like "omg I have been saying it wrong my whole life. LMAO
Also.. its David GA-Rard, not David Jerrr-ard

True Dat. It's also Jag-Wars, not Jag-Wires.
A thread full of uphill, unwinnable battles. Looks like this turned into some sort of group therapy session. While funny, it should be expected that these mispronouncements will live on as long as cockroaches and twinkies.
BTW...notbody's mentioned "skreet".
I didn't realize that the pluralization of names like Dunn went on in Jacksonville...I always thought that was primarily a Midwestern speech pattern. Maybe it came to town with the Prairie school as a package deal?
Along with Skrimps and Skreets.
Its also JAME MEES rd, not JAM MEES rd.
Jammes Rd.
