Title: Any info on the Marketplace Restaurant?
Post by: BigGuy219 on June 11, 2010, 12:49:24 PM
Hope I got the name right, forgive me if I didn't.
In the June building update on this site it seemed it was making progress, and when I was at Burrito Gallery I saw plans hanging on the wall.
The plans I looked at seemed to indicate half of it was going to be some kind of grocer? Is this accurate? Be great if it was. Anyone have any more details on it?
Could influence my decision on whether to remain downtown.

I think you might be referring to Uptown Market (http://uptownmarket.tumblr.com/)

It's in Springfield (just north of downtown) and has a restaurant and small market inside.  I've been to the restaurant and the food is decent however I haven't checked out the market.  If you're looking for something like a grocery/convenience store, I'm not sure that's what Uptown Market would fall under (although others who know more would better judges of that).

I'm just curious: what are you looking at when considering whether to stay or leave downtown?  I have toyed with moving downtown for the past two years but it just doesn't have everything I'm looking for.  I just moved to Riverside because I can get downtown relatively easily when I want to but there's more in Riverside that I'm interested in.

Hmm. I don't think that's what I was seeing. It was a rather elaborate floor plan with a lot of area for produce, and then an adjoining bar/restaurant. Sort-of a "Whole Foods" look to it. I'll have to go back, but considering it was plastered on the wall right next to my table it's really my fault for not looking more carefully.

As a New York urbanite I'm used to the luxury of walking. To me there's something more 'free' to it than hopping in a car to go everywhere. My biggest gripe in the 8 months I've lived downtown is the grocery situation. There's the Winn-Dixie on N Market, which I frequent, but it is not what I consider walkable.

You probably saw the market floor plan for the long delayed Library project across the street. It will probably be a couple of years before that happens.

the other thing mentioned in the update is the restaurant being constructed in Chruchwell Loft building...lake and I both heard it was going to be called "marketplace"....I think it now has a new name and should be open for breakfast/lunch in the fall
