Title: Empire Point
Post by: SMoody84 on June 08, 2010, 12:44:47 PM
When are we going to see an article on the neighborhood of Empire Point?  Or has there already been one?

There's a few Late 1800's houses still there, one in particular the Marabanong House.  I would just like to see the history of the neighborhood.. well.. because I grew up there!

Smoody, check this thread out. It talks about that general area. Empire Point is a great neighborhood.

There is a writeup on the history of Empire Point and nearby neighborhoods (St. Nicholas, Keystone Bluff) in Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage, though I suspect you have seen that already.  I know Stephen Dare once made a passing mention of Marabanong's significance in one of his essays on how Jacksonville does not fully appreciate its heritage, so perhaps he has some fascinating details to offer (as is normally the case).
