Space Shuttle Atlantis is on the launch pad prepped and ready to go for an International Space Station assembly flight, to attach the Russian Rassvet mini-research module.
It is the third-to-last launch for the Space Shuttle program and the last flight of Atlantis, the fourth of five orbiters originally built.
All flights are historic!
As a native of the Space Coast, I grew up watching the shuttle lift off from my backyard for almost 15 years. I was raised with the shuttle program. While I feel its time has probably come, I still will miss the aura, prestige, and mystique that surrounded the STS.
Give me a Go-no-go for launch!
WHAT A COOL SIGHT! Saw it in the Southeast for a good minute or so on the way up.
Beautiful launch!
nice view as it was heading to space from Downtown! I love it every time.
Just watched it from my office. Another reason I love living in Florida.
We went up to the roof of our building in Southpoint and had a great view.
