Alert Notification: Attempted Burglary on Dellwood Ave.
At approximately 11:00 AM this morning (Wednesday, April 12th) there was an attempted burglary in the 2400 block of Dellwood Ave. A female occupant of the residence was home when an intruder kicked in the front door and was able to scare the intruder away before anything was taken. The burglar was described as a black male driving a white car. This is only description that was provided and no other details are available at this time.
If you have any information on this crime or see anyone in the neighborhood behaving suspiciously you should call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 630-0500. If you see a crime in progress, or reasonably believe that a crime is about to be committed, call 911 immediately. After you call the police, please keep your Neighborhood Watch informed by letting us know about your report.
ALERT NOTIFICATION UPDATE
We have received updates that the burglary attempt was not an isolated incident, that in fact there were three other burglaries today - one other on Dellwood, one on Forbes and another unconfirmed on Rayford. The burglar is described as being a black male in his 20's, with short hair, approximately 200 lbs, wearing blue work pants and a multi-colored t-shirt, driving a white Pontiac Grand Am with un-tinted windows. He was last seen driving east towards Margaret Street via Dellwood. If you see this man or anyone resembling him please notify police immediately.
Joke's on them! I don't have anything valuable in my house!
I'm still gonna install booby traps.
Mostly because I like saying "booby trap".
"booby".
Is this a misprint? The memo says April 12th...
missprint. It was today.
Thanks for the heads up Compound.
There's been a lot of burglaries around this area of Riverside recently. Guess it's time to start sitting on my porch at night and enjoy these summer evenings.

Seems many events are mid day.
The kicking in of the front door thing interesting. This has been going on for years now.
On my street in the wilds of western Avondale many neighbors are prepared to meet the door kick challenge.
yea my friend stays in the King street area and his apartment was broken into a few weeks ago. The landlord left the door to the building open earlier that day and some kick in his door and ramshacked the place.
FYI, my husband's car was broken into last night in front of our house (Herschel Street b/t James and Cherry). Fortunately, nothing valuable was in the car, but it received a thorough rifling through. He will be filing a police report.
This is one of the reasons I have a sign in my front window that says Doberman on Duty. And I make sure I let the dogs out into my fenced in front yard every day when I get home for at least 30 minutes so anyone driving by and "scouting targets" will see two large dogs and move elsewhere. Knock on wood, my house, my neighbors houses on either side and houses directly across the street have never been bothered.
And they are beautiful dogs too. A real pleasure to watch them.

creepy point +2 XD
jbg, see PM.
Sport, I probably notice dogs more than people and certainly remember them better. Not stalking, just walking (my dogs). LOL!

I had my car broken into just a week or so before that. Corner of Cherry and Herschel. And I heard someone on Downing had it that same day. They didn't get much from me though. Police were called though.
My take on car breakins, having dealt with many broken windows and stolen fancy stereos in the 90's, is this -
Unless you've got a fabulously expensive stereo setup in your car, just remove all your valuables every night, lock the steering wheel, and leave the damn thing open & unlocked. If they want to get in, they'll open the door without breaking a window, see that there's nothing to steal, and move on. Shrug.
As far as your house goes, get a boxer (or two). They're the best dogs one could ever have. Mine are Riot and Anarchy :-)
