Title: Jax Beach City maintained parking lots to charge $5 per car.
Post by: mtraininjax on May 10, 2010, 10:51:49 PM
OMG  :o Can you believe that a city government has the audacity to charge $5 for parking? From the Channel 4 broadcast, you might think the end of the world is coming, the way the people who skate by with free parking cried over having to pay $5 now, per car, per day, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

$5 is a deal if you have ever received a ticket at the beach. Atlantic and Neptune will charge you $25 for parking along the street after 10 any night, and Jax Beach has its own fun fines as well.

Makes me glad that downtown Jax is more reasonable.

One huge difference is the liveliness of Jax beach. It bustles during summer months. (winter too) Space is at a premium.

I guess Lemon bar, Pete's, Ragtime, Sliders, and other restaurants are considered North Jax Beach?????

Ouch.

Try to find $5.00 parking on South Beach,,after you've been driving around for an hr or more your glad to play $15.00 to park. So $5.00 is a steal. Our beach has come along way from what it used to be.

Lemon bar, Pete's, Ragtime, Sliders are all neptune beach (or atlantic depending on who you talk to) I don't think anyone would say they're in jax beach.
Jax beach has: ritz, brix, lynchs, Bo's, the wine bar, monkey's uncle*, gingers, the atlantic, and ocean club. I'm sure I'm missing some.

*monkey's uncle is really in the office depot plaza and has it's own parking.

No Sir. That would be Neptune beach and Atlantic Beach.

Downtown should be so lucky as to have a parking crunch. As it stands, I agree with the notion that parking meters are an obstacle (albeit a small one) for those who would visit.

they are also doing this to limit loitering...too many under-21 folks park at night and drink in their cars...hopefully, this curbs that problem.

Did someone just compare South Beach and Jax Beach?

This sounds fair to me.  After all, the beach itself is free, so there should be some sort of revenue generator associated with it.  I hope this will allow Jax Beach to be able to develop the area more and this whole thing will snowball into a bigger and better beach.

I was @ JB Saturday evening as I was conned into going to Salt Life.  One obvious thing that stood out was the concentration of taxis running up & down 1st & 3rd streets.  I swear, @ ~1:30, 1 in 4 vehicles was a cab.  I actually didn't realize that the were so many in North Florida.  So much activity in such a concentrated area - it truly felt like a "destination".  Coastal Cab seems to have a handle on things from SJTC to the Beaches.  I can fully envision that in the Bay Street area in the near future.  BTW, the potato trucks were running too ("Trolleys").......

blizz, did you not like Salt Life?  I have only been once, but I enjoyed the food and it seemed like a nice place.  I was wearing 'goggles' at the time, so I didn't get a great read on the place.

Quotedid you not like Salt Life?

Actually I did like it & it's nice to see local guys succeed.  The food was really good as was the service once we were able to get a table.  I guess my lack of clarification was specific to the 1:45 (hour) wait that we had appended to our "call ahead" as they do not take reservations.  Oh, well - that just gave me more bar time I suppose.

Been to Salt Life a few times, its trendy... not necessarily my favorite place at the beach(nor would it make my top 20). The food is serviceable.  The wait time is usually very long.

When I lived at the beach(ponte vedra, jax beach, and neptune beach) I took cabs pretty much exclusively going out at night.  The Beaches PCT trolley is really quite phenomenal as a means of getting around.  Its much cheaper than taxis, you dont have to wait very long, and they run very early into the morning.  During the summer time when the service is running, its really the only way to fly so to speak.

Is there anything in the interlocal agreement between COJ and the beaches cities about parking fees and how that affects beach access for people in the county outside the beaches cities?

If so, it would seem reasonable that the agreement would need to be reciprocal.

Free parking downtown for beaches residents?

Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Jax Beach, Baldwin, and Jacksonville ALL have seperate parking enforcement systems, and different days in which you must pay the ticket, all have different penalties as well.

As backward as Jacksonville City seems, they are the ONLY parking enforcement office to offer online payment of a parking ticket. Atlantic, Neptune and Jax Beach all continue to kill the environment with trees and paper.
