Title: Photo shoot location in Jacksonville
Post by: stlouiemom on May 03, 2010, 02:20:52 PM
My daughter would like to have her photo taken in a field of flowers.  Does anyone have a suggestion close to Jacksonville or at least within 50 miles?

The Cummer Art Museum. The gardens are awesome, although they now cost a fee to use, it used to be free.

Cummer Musuem Gardens(by far one of the best places to take photos in this city)

Jax Zoo Botanical Gardens

Ravine Gardens in Palatka

Rose Arbor in Springfield

There is also a wildflower field on Philips Highway where the old Chevrolet dealership used to be... havent been by in awhile, so I dont know what kind of shape its in.

The Philips site is toast now.  Looked good in the fall.

Washington Oaks State Park has gardens.  Off A1A between St. Augustine and Flagler Beach.  Call ahead to see what's blooming.

Wildflowers galore on 9A near JTB, and also off Philips at the site of Jackson Square, near Emerson.  The Jackson Square site is incredible enough to have had a feature story written about it in the TU.  The developer is allowing someone to farm the center section of the property and they are there most mornings. Meanwhile from the center of the acreage to Philips Highway they have sown a field of wildflowers that depending on your vantage point, run from wow to spectacular!  Take a drive by and you'll see what I mean...

I second the zoo.

I would only like to add that if you plan to go more than two or three times it may be cheaper to get the annual pass.  You would be surprised how well it works out.

The Cummer is free one day a week--I think Tuesdays.

Tuesdays after 4PM.  It's not free, but AT&T has bought out all the admissions for that afternoon so it's free to us.  Thanks AT&T.

Should be a good spot in the PM since you will have the River as a background with the sun in the west.

You should have been here a couple of weeks ago when ALL of the flowers were out.  You  could have used anybody's front yard for a background.  Evidently the cold, wet winter we had stimulated all of the plants to extra effort.

Have fun!
