Is this a real brainer for all involved in MetroJacksonville? Another deadend for urban development of Jacksonville.
Same old song and dance from jax republicans. Kudos to Glorious for moving out of this "If its good for business, its
great for jax!" cheerleading squad. What theyve done for the "good of business" has actually destroyed the economy
of such a vibrant and promising region! More promises of 'cutting taxes" and "scaling back spending" ? hows that a solution
to a 400 million deficet? Im sure Jims a hell of a guy just like John Payton. But his political vision is disasterous for the city.

It's called Increased Sales Tax Revenue. Giving money to government is like flushing it down the toilet.
Running the City like a business is a great idea (See Mayors Guilianni and Bloomberg in New York City).
Its a cycle, today we have centralized control of departments, and in the next cycle we will go back to decentralized control. Government and Business, in the people, work similar, we're all on a cycle. Peyton changed how Delaney had the departments, and odds are good that the next mayor, having seen the chaos of the previous 8 years, will make their own changes. That part of the city as a business I understand and see.
But if you ran the city as a business, you would not have unions and have to leave deadwood alone, you could terminate and find more qualified people, big difference. And, what product does City create that its employees rally around? Nothing in this administration. Delaney, he had the accredidation that everyone followed, may have been hoky, but the Sterling Award was something each person in the city strived to achieve. Nothing has been achieved with Peyton. He has been a major disappointment.
I agree with the general train of thought...............but we were allready promised to "Run the City like a business" by the current mayor and I see just where we stand now! How many Millions in the hole.......from what I have seen anywhere from $58 Million to lots more Millions! I have to operate within a budget and I can't for the life of me figure out why Government, at any level, can not do the same!
CS - With Delaney we had a rising tide, we had money and a growing economy. Peyton has seen the rise and the fall, but what seperates leaders from followers is what they do in times of good and bad. Delaney could have scrapped the Sterling, saying BJP was all that he wanted as a legacy, but a good leader knows you need to keep the troops focused on a common goal, even during difficult times. Peyton has no such plan, and we all see his actions as a rudderless ship, where the Council now has the power and controls his last time on the clock as mayor.
mtraininjax..........I can not nor will I dispute that! So much for a leader and a Mayor who has a plan and a vision! Wasted effort for the past years and wasted money for which we will never get back! No plan B or C!

every local government, just like a business, has to balance their budget.
In the case of Jax. that has meant new fees as well as significant cuts....similarly, when costs rise for businesses, they usually pass that cost onto consumers (think about gas prices for example).
If you don't like the cost of something from a business, you don't buy it...that's voting with your money/patronage.

Funny thing is, government IS a business. But it is not run like one. Once decisions are made in this country from more of business perspective we will become much better off. From the poor to the super rich.

Do you mean the city should make a profit? As in take more money in than goes out?
