Former Clinton administration aide Alvin Brown entered the 2011 Jacksonville mayor's race on today â€" adding another high-profile Democrat to the mix.
Brown, executive in residence at Jacksonville University, filed his paperwork this morning, according to the Supervisor of Elections office.
Brown previously worked as an aide to President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. He also was a senior advisor on the campaign for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Brown unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 1994, his only try at elected office, though he has been rumored for several runs over the years.
Brown said in a news release he wants to continue working on building the local economy and will emphasize partnerships between government, business and nonprofits.
Brown joins City Councilwoman Glorious Johnson on the Democratic side. Johnson filed her candidacy last week.
Five other high-profile candidates in the race are all Republicans.
