Why I am not surprised to find this as the main article of CNN's website today? Pretty disturbing to see our media trying to compare the South with terrorists.

This doesn't suprise me in the least bit but still disgusts me all the same. :-\
I am sure the British saw George Washington as a terrorist during the American Revolution.
Only a Muslim can be terrorist.
Everyone else is freedom fighter.
Problem solved.
Anyone with a southern accent is potentially a terrorist.
There's just something not right about those people.

QuoteThe red flags wave, their horsemen gallop up and down; .... In every direction the damned red flags of the rebellion began to thicken and flaunt along the wall they had just ..... whose spirit they as little understand...

Well, well, another educated fool from uneducated schools...
Whereas the North held slaves throughout the entire War of Yankee Aggression, as did the South, this was hardly a moral crusade to "free the slaves." Delaware officially banned slavery in 1901! Oriental slave (women) were held well into the 20Th century and the benevolent Yankee's had no problem with it as long as they were needed to build railroads and do the laundry in Tombstone. American native peoples, were on an "extermination" list that would have made the Reich blush, reservation children were regularly beaten or confined to basements on bread and water for such crimes as speaking in Osage, or Kickapoo. Custer was just killing nits at the Black Kettle, albeit unarmed ones. Perhaps CNN's bleeding heart should read "I Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee." Yeah, some Yankee heroes.
I remain a proud and UNRECONSTRUCTED SOUTHRON, care to join me? OCKLAWAHA

All I want to know is when can we expect a troop draw down here? As far as I'm concerned, we've been under occupation since 1865.
It has been brought to my attention that perhaps thanks to my zany horseplay a large segment of our readership and/or the population of Jacksonville, thinks that I hate YANKEES!?!
I do not want this sort of negative thinking to have an unfriendly impact on an otherwise progressive-preservationist citizen mix that more and more is coming to symbolize the "NEW Jacksonville." So PLEASE get this straight, I have absolutely zero problem with Yankees, find them charming, even likable...
...as long as said Yankees are dead.
OCKLAWAHA
lol! Ock that is too funny!

Aren't southerners just French and Spanish who learned to speak English?
Thank you Ock for finally saying what I've thought for years. If the Civil War was truly fought over slavery, why was extermination of Native Americans policy of the US Army for more than a generation after the end of the war? Terrorism is what they waged all across this continent in the name of manifest destiny. Yes, "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" should be required reading in every school in this country.

The major group of settlers in the 1700's were Scots-Irish (Ulster Scots or Northern Ireland). They fled their lands because of Cromwell and the Kings/Queens of England thinking that Scottish and Irish were inhumans. Look up Rack-Rents.
Then came the potato famine.
By 1800, almost 5 million people were of Scots-Irish descent. Add in the Irish and Scottish immigrants and you have a major ethnicity in America.
My scots-irish ancestry traces from North Florida, through Georgia, through South and North Carolina to Virginia in the late 1600's early 1700's.

Look at the Smokey Mountains, this was the first place that was heavily settled outside of Pennsylvania.
So what city did Scot-Irish created??

.
Yeah my ancestors (Scot, Irish and a little Welsh), landed in Virginia in the 1600's and spread to NC SC GA AR before settling in TN and TX in the mid 1800's until today. No French or Spanish in me, Just a little Cherokee and Choctaw

None really, they settled farm lands and mountains.
True,
Forgot about Atlanta. Look up Georgia Highlanders as well.
Forgot about Oglethorpe settling Georgia stuff with mainly scottish highlanders.
The simple answer is Yes. If you define terrorism as defending a cause that used fear to keep in submission a whole race, then the honest answer is they were indeed terrorists. And the Unionists also terrorized the South but let's not forget that five of the Northern states were also slave states. The British were also terrorists if you stick to the same definition. But I don't see how anyone can apply the same logic to Indians who at best can be called "insurgents" for resisting invaders. Notice how we now describe as "insurgents" the people who call themselves freedom fighters. And that brings us to George Washington. ;D
We can agree or disagree that liberating the slaves was only a means to an end which in retrospect was a damn good means. And if you don't think it was, then you are in need of some serious soul searching. But in truth the word "terrorist" or "non-terrorist" will forever be one of those words like "beautiful" when you look in the mirror. ;D
