After months of contentious debate, the 4th Street Car Wash appeal was denied last night by city council.
The appeal was filed by several Springfield landowners to reverse the decison of the Planning Commission to permit the opening of a historic car wash site on Main Street.
Owner Silas Jones plans to move forward immediately.

btw...
automotive uses hurt Springfield because people packed their belongings in them and moved to the suburbs.

Of course it also allows them to move to Springfield.
Great news. I wish Mr Jones all the best!
Good to hear. Hopefully this car wash doesn't have high tracks and supports low cars. I would surely use it then.
I truly hope it turns out to be a positive for all in Springfield.
I'm glad to see he will get the chance to open and become successful.
At the carwash yeah, do da doo do da dooo do whoa oh oh workin at the carwash yeah
Awesome! It only took how many months??
Now I won't have to keep driving to Mandarin to go to Bubbles. Charles & George's doesn't come close to bubbles.
So the opposition still failed to produce zoning related facts to support their position? Anyway, I'm glad to see this thing move forward. It will be good to see another vacant property put back into use.
It was interesting to see an appeal attempted with even less support and less evidence than the original opposition. A waste of time.
SPAR is gasping its last breaths of relevance.
Meanwhile, I wish Mr. Jones all the best. He has fought a long, hard, expensive, and completely unnecessary battle over this car wash and I am glad it's finally over. I am sure he will be successful, I for one will use it, since Charles & George's sucks and it will be the next closest one.
Let there be peace. And clean cars.
It's practically against my religion to wash my car, but I may take a sabbatical just to show support.
great to hear. i don't see how anyone could prefer what is currently at that site over a new car wash.
I agree! Carwash here I come!

Hey, if you go through on your bike you can get a shower at the same time! Time-saver.
It was wise move on his part to hire Content Design Group. Not only did they do a great job with the renderings and the testing, but also with the presentation before the Planning Commission.
Can someone give me the cliff notes on why someone would appeal this?

Can someone give me the cliff notes on why someone would appeal this?
Cliff's Notes:
The horribly-behaved group of crotchety liquor-swilling backstabbers that has controlled S'field since 2003 (over the objections of the other 99% of the neighborhood) had decided amongst themselves that a car wash would, in some logic that made absolutely no sense and was never really explained, somehow cause an outbreak of prostitution and drug dealing. So they sandbagged the owner's opening day by carpet-bombing code-enforcement with bogus complaints, then went on to place what they thought were the right knives in the right backs.
But much to their horror, COJ completely ignored them and approved it anyway. This public defeat, in addition to being just plain embarrassing, telegraphed their total impotence to anyone within earshot. Hence, the appeal. The appeal was more of a last-ditch effort to address the issue of who's pulling the strings around here than it actually had anything to do with the car wash.
The car wash was really just an unwitting football in this fight, as the same thing has been happening for years to any business owner, landlord, etc., who didn't properly kiss SPAR's ass before coming into the neighborhood. Thankfully, the appeal was rightfully denied, and we will soon have a new car wash. Justice won the day.
Thanks Stephen and sheclown. Now it's time for Silas to show people why the concern, and dismissal of a car wash as a viable and positive addition to Springfield, was incorrect. It's time for him to step up to the plate and finish this thing...
Was any of this covered by the local TV media?
And a little more off topic, has MJ ever considered a spot on a TV channel, something like the restaurant report, show up occasionally to report happens in Jax that might not be covered by the big guys?
We've been asked to host a radio show on a local talk news station. However, we're split on the amount of time we can really dedicate to taking on such an endeavor.
Oh I can hear Ock now telling radio land how the Confederates are going to rise up and build a streetcar.
Much thanks for the idea chris! Think SPAR Council would be offended if I rode through with no clothes on?
Full City Council just denied the appeal 17:0, 1NV. It's over, the car wash is approved.
I guess that letter did not go over too well.

Let the sex offenders, drug dealers and prostitutes rejoyce!!!!
Seriously - good for Silas to get to run his business. Now (and no offense to Silas), but can we PLEASE move on to something more important than a car wash?
Gee Steve..............there is so many issues...........pick one! How about mass transit in Springfield? I am not referring to the the silly bus's either!

That is up to SPAR...
Chris............unless the Sparbarians come up with another person and the funding...........I think this may have been their last gasp! I hope to hell so..........got more important issue's to deal with and those buffons are just wasting time and energy.............let it go and move the hell on!
Now we can get back to our Moon river discussion.
