Title: Congestion Pricing in SE Florida
Post by: tufsu1 on April 06, 2010, 09:24:26 AM
The reviews on this project last year were great...maybe the luster is wearing off

Note that tolls are now as high as $7.25 for 8 miles during the most congested times...that's about $0.90 per mile.

Proposed tolls for the First Coast Outer Beltway are around $0.20 per mile.

The lanes used to be for express bus correct?  people were mad that the busses moved so quickly and wanted cars on the lanes.  Well cars cause congestion so congestion they now have.

no....what they did was convert the existing HOV lane (which buses could also use) to a high-occupancy-toll (HOT) lane...if you have 2+ occupants, you still get to ride for free...single occupant vehicles pay the toll, which varies in price according to the amount of congestion....the second HOT lane was created by minimizing widths on all travel lanes by 1' each and shrinking the shoulders on each side a few feet.

Speaking of dms, wonder if they're posting the travel time with the toll?  Seems like if people had comparative travel time info, they could make an informed choice.  And how does the 15 min. frequency compare to HOT lanes in CA?
