All I can make out in street view is "Baileys" and "Corner". I remember it being The Voodoo Lounge a few years ago with live acts, and a scary, unstable set of stairs leading to the top. A friends band used it as rehearsal space, and the upstairs area was their "backstage" of sorts. I never paid attention until it popped up into my mind to check it out now.

Voodoo was to the right, in the white building in this pic. It is now The Sinclair.

what is happening with the big black brick building by Broad? It used to be a club I think, but empty for a while...that reminds me I have not been down to Wormans in awhile- yummy!
Worman's closed a few months ago.
It looks like "Bailey's Camera Corner."
This use to be JoAnns Chili Bordello back in the day. Popular with the political lunch goers.
Nice girly servers in bustiers and garters.
oh la la
Worman's closed???!! What? That place rocked and I firgured with the construction and courthouse it would get even busier (as if they needed it!)

where have you been?...this was big news in November...son didn't want to keep the deli and parents health wasn't good.
Actually.. Joann's chili bordello previously occupied the vodoo lounge, not this building..
When you go downtown, look up! Like this building, the brick work on a lot of them is simply amazing. The storefronts have mostly been remodeled, covering the craftsmanship but those old masons took a lot of pride in their designs.
Downtown, decorative brickwork might be a good topic for a MetroJax photo essay.
Tufsu, been in CLT all last year, very sad to hear this :-(
DogWalker- the brick work is amazing! I would love to see some stories on the hisotry of those buildings.
Duh
I thought we were talkin' about the Voodoo Lounge space. I can't keep up with you youngsters.
;D
Yeah, Voodoo was next door, you're right, all those years have since faded as far as remembering 3/4 of it all. Did a google search and it brought up this link: https://www.myfloridalicense.com/LicenseDetail.asp?SID=&id=386E358C8FA546F0EE84F39A882E64F3.

For years Bailey's was under the parking garage exit ramp on Hogan Street between Forsyth and Adams- an odd circular shape to match the spiral ramp. Then it moved to Forsyth. I got my passport picture there in 1986. A few years later Temple moved his store back to Hogan Street.
I wonder why the status says the old building is demolished though? That's odd.

What? City records not accurate? Gasp! I'm.... shocked!
Sad too, since the Ed Ball Building houses ITD and the buildings department, you'd think they could walk a couple of blocks and see if the building was indeed demolished.

That place used to be "The Cave" I remember some of the shows there in the 90s.
i remember the cave, very few places where the second story floor actually bounced.
Re: reply 14...shhh...if Code Enforcement thinks it's already gone, and they missed demolishing a historic building...no need to give them a heads up. :-)
@Debbie, very true.. we'll just brush this one under the rug ;)

Actually, if you look closer, that license is for the elevator that apparently was in the building. So I assume that when it says "demolished", it is referring to the elevator/shaft.
really cool building. I know the wine bar next door is for sale. I am not too sure if it is being sold jointly, but I would assume they have some sort of plan to sell when the time is right if it is not in that deal as the taxes have been current since the current owner bought the structure
More than one year ago this building was offered for rent and had a national listing on Loop Net, so there's a photo and pretty complete physical description at:

I would hate to foot the bill for that renovation job, yikes. However, I do hope to see it brought back to life and become something useful. Was just talking to a friend about all the memories inside that place. I remembered while waiting for my friends band to go on, we all walked up the creeky & creepy staircase to just shoot the shit since I hadn't seen them in a few months as they were in South Florida recording their new record. We all just laughed at how 1 wrong step and that'd be the end of us all.
Has the former Voodoo Lounge space been used for anything since closing down?
Is the Voodoo Lounge the space next door, that used to be the Chili Bordello? If so, it's being converted into a jazz bar.

It was ran as Secrets Wine Bar for a while but closed and now is being re-opened as https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dukes-Place-Blues-Bar-Lounge/448566145278864 (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dukes-Place-Blues-Bar-Lounge/448566145278864)
I remember going there years ago, when it was Joann's Chili Bordello. It's a supercool building. I drove by there the other day, and didn't notice anything regarding construction/rehab; of course, I was moving by in traffic.
Are these renovations going on now? Thanks.
Yes. I ran into the owner last week.
Lake, yes, that was the location. It was popular around 2004-05ish for local bands to perform. There was even an all day festival where a few bands played the inside & the back garage, all local.
