Man, they are really moving along. I can't wait to see this one finished.
What's the estimated time of completion for this again? 2009? 2010?
Bump.
any news?
This project is dead. All we got was the Wachovia and some relocated businesses leaving empty storefronts behind.
Yes, it is dead. It's amazing what hasn't happened in the past year.
Its not dead. There's talk of moving it forward by switching the condos above Publix to apartments.
Beat me to it. Lake's right, its just portponed for redesign.

Well, I talked to some district managers from Publix a few weeks back and they don't believe it's happening anytime soon.
We shall see. It find it amazing that East San Marco is dead (delayed) and the developers at Jackson Sqaure still propose to move forward.
Why? East San Marco was initially proposed as condos over retail and then the condo market went bust. Jackson Square is proposed as apartments, but still needs to go through a couple of years of approval, rezoning, permitting and design before any dirt can be turned. My guess is that we'll see East San Marco rise out of the ground first. Primarily, because they already gone through the things mentioned above.
:)
Wow, this is great news. Last I heard the project was totally put on hold. Like a 2+ year hold till the market turned around.
I can not believe that the San Marco area has existed this long without a decent grocery store nearby.
DARN, and I just signed a year lease! UGH!
Just add streetcar and watch it bloom, I'm telling you, this city is a development bomb about to go SKY HIGH!
If East San Marco and Jackson Square, the new Baptist, the new Crown Parking garage and the new Kings Avenue Station don't convince you. "Your lights are on but your house is missing...."
OCKLAWAHA
PLEASE NO MORE RESIDENTAL BUILDINGS!!! It is cool about the Publix thing and some nice new retail places... but apartments or condos bring more kids and Hendricks Ave Elem cannot handle anymore children. It seems like this was not considered at all.
No more kids?? If schools are overcrowded they can always be expanded or rebuilt. Would you rather the development head to the burbs where more new schools have to be built pulling more money from the inner city schools??
The most likely buyers for this development wouldn't be people with kids anyways.

Looking at the google map. I see the King Ave Station extension could easily connect both San Marco Square, East San Marco & then to Jackson Square. What is FEC Park??
FEC is a pretty large park that has not been developed. If the River Oaks crossing were closed, its possible that the city could get a couple of thousand dollars to put something like a playground or picnic pavilion there. With a little thought, FEC Park could become a decent urban destination in its own right.

Spring park has plenty of room. Schools can be adjusted easily this is no real problem.
I noticed passing through this weekend that all the property for East San Marco, the buildings still there, have all closed and now have fencing around them. So, expect some extensive demo in San Marco over the next few weeks I'm sure.
is this project still a possibility as proposed?

This is a funny statement. Condos and apartments bring kids? More like retirees and young professionals.

Yes. However, the project will not move forward until the residential housing market improves.

K. That's all I was hoping. Of course it's too early to speculate when that might be, right? One year? 2 years? 5 years?
