I can only imagine this is one clASSy place:

omfg
Sweet air brushed sign and jumbled letters :P
Yeahhhhhhhh. :-X
I'll have a great laugh on the work commute now.
It makes sense since it's an island in the middle of traffic, but seriously? Cooter Island?
Seriously. Seriously?? Wow. Welcome to Jacksonville.
I think there is a turtle called the Florida Cooter. I'm sure that's what they were talking about ~snickers~.
Awsome

OMG I just looked at that photo again. Wow, way to recycle there. ;)
A cooter is a turtle yes, but I know y'all know what the other definition of "cooter" is; if you don't, you're not a real southerner!
"HU"
Maybe some vagazzling going on there?
Perhaps we are seeing the birth of a future national branding concept,
a la Hooters.
^ so will they be sport large and ample "Cooters" instead of Hooters?
sounds like a strip club to me.
This place does more business than you'd think, so I'm curious as to why they felt they needed 're-branding'.
Any fans of the TV show "Dukes of Hazard" would know who Cooter is?

I guess this is as good a time as any to take a shot in the dark at solving a Jacksonville mystery. Some years ago, late 90s I think, I was passing through Jacksonville and one of the local country stations played a song called Cooter Brown from a local band. That's the only time I've heard it and it's stuck in my head periodically ever since. No clue who the band was and research has been futile. Anyone know anything about this?
I just drove by this place 30 minutes ago. I don't know what the north side of the sign says, but the side facing south just says "OOTI", as the rest of the letters have either faded, fallen off, or been painted over. Something tells me this "rebranding" is simply an act of vandalism of either the real or the cyber variety.
Cooter Brown's is a bar in NOLA.
Tootie Green's closed a while back.
What sort of establishment is Cooter Island supposed to be?

Oh....maw....gawd. The visual...can't....get...out...of my head. One can only wonder what kind of food they will serve.
^ I vomited in my mouth as I typed that response.

Fish of course!
...it being an island and all
But its a traffic island. LOL!
Why don't we rename Exchange Club Island (is that the correct name?)
under the Matthews Bridge Cooter Island?
