QuoteNASA: Quake Shifted Earth's Axis, Shortened Day
Updated: 3 hours 16 minutes ago
(March 1) -- Apart from claiming the lives of hundreds of people and wreaking enormous property damage, Chile's massive earthquake has likely altered the distribution of the Earth's overall mass, scientists from NASA say.
As a result, the length of a day is now a little shorter than it was before Saturday's magnitude 8.8 earthquake.

Furthering the 2012 possibility. One of the doomsday theories is that the axis is changing, which will cause a complete weather change around 2012.

Before reading that article is was hard for me to fathom just how insanely powerful an 8.8 quake would be. I know a couple nano seconds loss in daylight is seemingly nothing but to think that an earthquake could possibly rock the planet enough to change the planet's rotation is absolutely amazing.
I saw this too. It is very cool to think an earthquake can do that. Truly a major seismic event.
Yeah, to add to that... I was reading the other day about how much more powerful an earthquake is when it's even just decimal points apart. They rate it on a scale and someone may think a 7.5 isn't that much above a 7.0 in mathematical terms, but it's a completely different rating system and even .5 decimal points can be significant on larger quakes. We may not think a 3.0 is anything, but a 6.0 isn't just double, it's many, many multiples of force to get there.
"The Richter Scale is used to rate the magnitude of an earthquake -- the amount of energy it released. This is calculated using information gathered by a seismograph. The Richter Scale is logarithmic, meaning that whole-number jumps indicate a tenfold increase. In this case, the increase is in wave amplitude. That is, the wave amplitude in a level 6 earthquake is 10 times greater than in a level 5 earthquake, and the amplitude increases 100 times between a level 7 earthquake and a level 9 earthquake. The amount of energy released increases 31.7 times between whole number values. "

I've heard that too Johnny. Kinda scary to think of what a 9.0 could do to the Earth's axis.
Probably like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh4cIdQYf9o&feature=PlayList&p=04EC943433ACFB81&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=11
2012??
What has that got to do with anything?
Earthquakes affect but don't change Earth that much.9.3 earthquake happened in 2004 when it produced tsunami.
Polar shift is magnetic not physical and it would take hundreds to thousand of years to occur.
Movie 2012 is also stupid, typical Hollywood Armageddon.
George Bush created the earthquake and will not stop until the earth's axis is altered by 30 degrees.
Haven't you sheeple heard?
"We've gotta shift the poles over there, so we don't have to shift them over here"
I don't think GW did but people who gave him a job could.
Haiti and Chile could be jsut experiment before they strike Iran at full force.
Imagine doing earthquake against your enemies or nuclear plants?

The British Geological Society states that it might only take one to several thousands of years and does go on to state that earth's magnetic field is only half as strong as it was in Roman times.
Not saying it will happen that quick, but it might not take the hundreds of thousands of years to do so.
^ I heard Tesla was working on a device that would instantly reverse the magnetic poles, but only would work when the earth is at the exact center of the galaxy, which only occurs on Dec 21st, 2012.
our polar axis is more affect by the moon, and the moon is slowly pulling away from the earth and when it gets far enough away earth's stability will be severely altered enough to end life as we know it. On a positive, the timeframe of the moon's departure is very far away . . . very, very, very far away.

Oh yes an earthquake in Iran would be quite the weapon. Oh wait, Iran has tons of earthquakes every year and averages a 6.0 earthquake every 3-5 years. The people who gave Bush a job have been doing this for centuries, the aliens are among us.
The dooms day asteroid is about to touch down, gotta go, sorry....
Take it to the bank...
I consulted the Oricle in the Andes, have walked the ancient bloody temples, and bought back the message...
From NOW to within the FIRST SIX MONTHS of 2011, LOS ANGELES is toast.
(They've already posted a volcanic warning box of several hundred miles around the Amboy and Baghdad Craters in California, about 50 miles north of my desert place. It last went off 10,000 years ago and now they are worried?)
I'll start the POOL, ONE DOLLAR each bet, winner or winners take all... (and gives it to your favorite charity of course) Name the place and a time spread!

6.5 Earthquake in Taiwan.
I wonder where will be next?
China or Iran???
Hmm,maybe they need to run couple of more tests, just to be sure.
I say Charleston, SC.
Reed, technical question for a gearhead: Will the GPS satellites have to be adjusted for the change in the rotation or is it too small to matter?

Someone in the CIA still upset about Secession from the 1860s? :D

there was an earthquake in Charleston, SC in the late 90's when I lived there. It was very minor, but I could still feel the earth move and see the wall of my office wave upward from ground to roof. Not many people realize there is fault line there and future quakes are very possible.

Wait, the Pacific Rim has earthquakes? Alert the media, something isn't right.
I can't find the story/link at this point, but I read an article that stated the Chilean earthquake was something like 500 times more powerful than the Haitian earthquake in January. Unbelievable.
Chilean earthquake struck offshore like while Haiti qearthquake struck right underneath of city.

There's your proof!
Bos was right all along!
Probably because Santiago is further away than Port-au-Prince the CIA folks at the HAARP facility couldn't aim as well.
They are most likely testing ground, different countries with different layout and architecture.
Its like testing a nuke, you have to see how it responds.
I wonder where is next target..Iran or China?
Here you go Bos - the answer is, sort of, China

6.2 magnitude hit Taiwan on March 4.
Although the US technically holds Taiwan as an ally; don't know why in the world we'd target our 'ally' over our 'adversary,' but I'm sure you've got some insight to that.
We already posted about that.
That's not it,most likely another test.
Talk about being American ally there is a good saying (even that is by Henry Kissinger) that goes "It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal".
Lately USA have been effing bunch of US "ally" from Turkey,Israel,Bosnia,European Union etc.
That saying is actually true, you are more likely to get punished by US as ally then enemy.
QuoteI wonder where is next target..Iran or China?
California... ::)
So just like 9/11. The US is going to hit itself again?
That'll teach us.

Y'all do know that the Charleston Fault is believed to "end" just north of Jacksonville right? ...But then there is the "St Augustine Fault" which hasn't moved significantly in 131 years, oh but when it does... WHAM! The USGS predicts bad karma indeed... sand liquidizes!! :o Quote

Intensity VI
Largest Earthquake in Florida
Plaster was shaken down and articles were thrown from shelves at St. Augustine and, to the south, at Daytona Beach. At Tampa, a trembling motion was preceded by a rumbling sound. Felt from a line joining Tallahassee, Florida, to Savannah, Georgia, on the north to a line joining Punta Rassa and Daytona Beach, Florida, on the south. Two shocks occurred, each lasting 30 seconds.
