Really good series. I am pleased the Mayor sat down with you and discussed these issues. Wish it could have only been sooner.

Great stuff MJ and Stephen.

After today's meeting, I find the mayor's words regarding the homeless drop-in center encouraging.

Great set of interviews but the elephant in the room not discussed is the impact caused by our failure to deliver in the education sector.  While not directly under the Mayor, this subject is THE biggest key to the the City's overall success.  Until we have a process or form of government that integrates education within the fabric of the City's coming and goings, we will be holding back on what Jax can really be.

As an aside, most would agree the top issues in our community include education, public safety, and transportation.  Yet, not one of these is accountable to the Mayor's office and, as a result, these issues are not integrated into City planning and governance.  I think it's apparent some fresh thought needs to be focused on how these areas are governed.  The Charter Review Commission has looked at two (JSO and School Board) of these so far, with a split decision on revamping.  JTA needs to be scrutinized as well.  And, then, it's time for some substantive changes and results.

I sure hope this is true. If the city does not take you up on this they are truly fools

BTW I found an old Jacksonville traction company token recently

Can you scan both sides of the token? I'd love to see the image! Wonder if it can be enlarged? I've been looking for such a token, great find!

I will try to scan it but its tiny, a little larger than a pinkie fingernail
BTW I also found 4 union civil war bullets and a 1890's great coat button in the same area.

With the number of civil war relics found here in Jacksonville there must be a massive amount of lost civil war history here. I have found them downtown, riverside and springfield

Great work MJ and Stephen, this candid and unpolished look at the Mayor was fascinating to watch, I actually like him even more now, interesting how an honest look at someone can raise your opinion of them.

I have great hope that he will achieve the majority of that Bucket List agenda, particularly the artists movement downtown, this has been a tested and proven method of revitalization for so many downtowns.

This is the appeal of Mayor Peyton. I doubt this will be the end of his political career, due to his ability to articulate and appear sincere.

Didn't you guys elected Bush because he look like a guy you could have beer with?
How did that go?

Peyton did not do anything in his entire term in office except give us some cheesy downtown plans and drawing of hot dog cart on a bridge.
But my question is How many times can politicians mislead you before you learn not to believe them?
2,3,10-50??

I must believe them all. It's in my inferior Americanized DNA.

Have pity on me Bos. How could I share your clearly superior insight when I am but a simple herd animal?

Interesting how you "Didn't you guys elected Bush...", do you have access to my voting record?

Regardless, I am baffled at tearing him down for trying to revitalize.  I support his efforts and what I think are the honest motivations behind them.
