Does anyone know of a good bar in this town where you can throw steel tip darts? It seems like every dart board I have seen in this city are all plastic tip. What gives?
YES!
actually there is a place off blanding that will let you, near the mall..the name of it escapes me atm tho :(
Box Seats, maybe?
Is it farther out than the mall maybe roadhouse?
London Bridge used to have a few.
A few years ago a friend who was involved in a very successful dart league in Athens, Georgia and I did a diligent search for bars with real darts and never found anything.
Wish one of our downtown/Springfield/Five Points clubs would take advantage of that opportunity....
I was also surprised when I moved to Jax and was unable to find a steel tip league. Soft tip darts are crap.
^^ maybe we need to present a league to a few bars in town and see if we can get them to hang a few boards. Even ask if they are willing sponsor a team, by giving them ownership of the board for a few hours a week and reduced drinks for league players during those hours.
Out of curiosity, how many logging onto this web site would be interested?
I play both, so yeah, I would probably be interested, as long as it was not too far outside of DT. ;)
All of the bars in my previous leagues benefited from guaranteed people coming in every Mon and Tues night to drink for a few hours. If it's close to DT, I'm in.
harmonious monks off of 295 and old st augustine road
If I was an insurance man I would probably not like the mixture of alcohol and sharp pointy things flying around.
Its more becuase when you are drunk and you miss horribly you zip a sharp pointy thing into the dry wall, and eventually you have a ton of holes in a wall
If your missing that bad, you shouldn't be throwing.
When I originally started this thread, I was't as clear as I should have been. I work downtown and live at the beach. It is those two areas and in between that I was looking for a place to throw. Unless it was for league play, then I would be willing to roam the Jax Metro area.
im working on getting two boards in my shop downtown after i get the beer in i will install two at the northstar
Bumping this thread to the top as the question was asked tonight - any new updates?
I'll put a couple up in Dive Bar if you like. Can do a discounted drink deal for the players and friends.
May have to sign a waiver not to sue me if things go awry, lol.
Let me know what is needed and I will get it done.
Sounds like fun!
Roadking knows me so he can be the MJ connection.
Thanks,
Mark

I'm in.
I remember about 30 years ago throwing darts out of a place in Arlington off cessary called Piddlers I believe. I participated in two seasons. We had the home and away games so you threw at each bar. Home and away. Roadhouse sounds familiar. I was pretty new to Jax so I just road with someone to the other away games but we had a lot of fun. One season I got the T180 plaquue and high off. I'd like to think I still have some game.
After that last Hogans Creek cleanup disc golf is a whole other challenge. I know the thread is on darts but I'm just curious if there are any frisbee throwers that are also good dart throwers. Seems like a good transition sport.
JN68 when you find a spot let me know and I'll throw a few back and throw with you as well.
Northstar "The Pizza Bar" downtown (www.northstarsubstation.com) has 2 steel tip darts. Unfortunately we often have tables that need to be moved being that we have to maintain seating because of our restaurant, but we are always glad to move them if you want to play.
We are also opening up Dahlia's (www.dahliaspourhouse.com) in a few weeks in Riverside and will have 2 dart boards that will have their own little back corner. And we would love to do a league if anyone wants to lead one up, we will help out!
Brewer's in OP.
I have a steel tip board in my garage and have several pair of both types. I haven't played as much in the past few years as I'd like, but I quit drinking a while back, so cleaning out the garage to expose the toe line once again has never been a big priority for me.
I have shot at Roadhouse on several occasions, years ago, but don't know if they still have steel tip boards. I heard bars are hesitant to engage in such activities because of the one jerk in the crowd who doesn't understand it's a gentleman's game of skill and accuracy, and not an accelerated version of "extreme tag".
I'd be interested a start-up league...sounds like fun. I used to be BIG on all the beer sports (bowling, darts, foosball and pool). Where is Brewers in O.P.?
Cheers
