Some of you may remember last year that some of the downtown bars got together and held a flag football tournament along with North Florida Sales at the Jags practice fields. Well, as of yesterday, the event is back and will be held at the Jags practice fields again this year on February 28th. The event is free for all and North Florida Sales (Anheuser Bush Products) will be on site sampling beer for free! At the moment the following bars have teams registered to play: The Ivy, Mark's/Dive (One Team), Burrito Gallery/Dos Gatos (One Team), Mavericks, The Pearl, and Square One.
This event will start at 1pm on the 28th and all are welcome to come and enjoy Sunday Funday downtown! We hope everyone will spread the word about the event and there are two remaining spots for any bars that would like to play who are located near downtown. The deadline for new teams is Monday 2/8 near the end of the day.
After the event, there will be an awards ceremony at The Ivy around 6pm (depending on games) to crown this year's champions and identify the individual awards. There will be no cover for this after party and drink specials will be very aggressive but are not yet set (more than likely $2 Beers and $4 Calls). The after party is hosted by the previous years champions and is designed to cover operating cost and celebrate what is happening downtown. Last year was a blast and few hundred people showed up throughout the day. A DJ will be on site to provide entertainment outside of the games.
This event is only in its third year and we hope that it grows over time. We will check the response from MetroJax, Facebook, and word of mouth to try and provide beverages accordingly throughout the day. Please feel free to give your suggestions or comments. Once North Florida Sales develops the Facebook page I will post the link.

The Ivy Ultra Bar
interesting....i like it.
My money is on Mavericks. How could the country bar not win a football competition?
Because they're all sporting beer bellies and boots?
I say that because I assume they would be dead last in either a Bar Spelling Bee, or Bar Math Competition. So the opposite of that would be winning football.
Either way, sounds like fun and worth checking out.
If Lee's team is anything like UNF intramurals... I'll take team Dos Gatos. JK
The Ivy kicked everyone's butt last year. They are still the reigning Champs... for now at least.. ;)

Awesome pic Mark and thanks for the love. We are a little out of shape this year so it will be interesting to see how the tournament plays out. I will try to find my pics from last year and post them. Hope everyone can make it out.
This weekends tourney should be much better than last year! And last year was awesome...But Marks is bringing some new weapons this year! But we may suck cuz im playing QB
When the smoke clears I am certain the trophy's new address will be at @ 315 East Bay Street Suite 101. But regardless of the outcome everyone should come out and support their favorite bar this weekend.
What this photo doesn't show is after this interception me running it back about 80 yards and falling on my face out of exhaustion. And not falling down because I had reached the goal line and scored a touchdown, nope, I couldn't even make it to the endzone before collapsing. --P.S. this interception was thrown by Tony Allegretti (aka Biggie Tea)

Is that why the field is shorter this year.....? J/K Steven. I think that was the play of the tournament last year! Ivy is looking forward to another exciting tournament and we hope more fans will come out.
p.s. Mark should take a snap or two.....as a secret weapon.
It is going to be a blast.
Here is a pic of last year's championship team. Most will be back for round two. If anyone would like to see the trophy, it is on display behind the bar. Maybe everyone can take a gander during the dry run pub crawl this week?! Anyways, it should be a lot of fun and we have come to love our trophy on our bar so we intend to win one more time. We still need to practice though!

I for one is very happy the fields are shorter this year! With all the running i did last year i couldn't walk the next day! I am glad you guys have Kyle playing again this year so i have someone to pick on if he plays the corner again! ;D
Kyle was a very under used weapon last year and we will get some significant playing time this year. As long as he shows up before 3pm! Who am I kidding.... he just looks good in a jersey and his cool shades.
LOL hes a rockstar he can wear whatever he wants and be cooler than the other side of the pillow! good luck this weekend Lee!
Thanks. I'm just ready to have a little fun away from the bar for a few hours. I think the downtown area is becoming quite the group of friends. See ya Sunday.
Finally the big weekend is here... Monster Trucks and The 2010 Bar Brawl. There are 7 teams participating this year representing 9 venues. The Ivy, Mark's and Dive (one team), Maverick's, Burrito Gallery and Dos Gatos (one team), European St., Square One, and The Pearl are all ready to show off their skills. Dustin from "LIT" has assured me that he will make a celebrity appearance at some point in the afternoon even though they are not playing this year.
The tournament will begin at Noon and the final game should be around 5:30p. Tell all of your friends to come out and enjoy the sun and fun downtown for a change. There will be a DJ playing music and North Florida Sales sampling out several beers. We will be playing on the Jaguars practice fields in particularly the turf field.
After the tournament or 6p (which ever comes first), The Ivy will host the official after party where the new champions will be honored. There will also be individual awards given out this year for several categories. The drink specials will be $2 Bud Light Drafts, $5 Jack Daniels Drinks, and complimentary pizza from North Star Sub Station for all guests. The party will go as long as the crowd so be ready to party. No cover or dress code as the players will most likely still be in uniform.
Come out and talk a little smack just remember this is all in fun!
Looks like a great time! Need cheerleaders? ;D
I am sure each team will have a few. But The Ivy would love to have you come show a little support.
Congratulations to the Ivy on winning the Bar Brawl for the second time in two years. They are still the champs! Hats off to Lee & his team. They deserve it.
Also want to thank Gina and her team at North Florida Sales for hosting the event again. It was a well planned and well run event.
Finally, Thanks to all the teams and their supporters for participating in this uniquely Downtown event.
Regards, Mark
Thanks to all of the teams who came out for a fun day in the nice weather. Gina, Rob, and Scott did an amazing job setting up the event and also providing Jason's Deli for lunch. All of the teams played very well and seemed to have a lot of fun.
Also, congrats to Steven from Mark's for being voted MVP of the day by all of the team's captions. The after party was really unique. I think that is the first time most of the downtown bar tenders and staff have all been in the same place at once. It was awesome to have a few cocktails with everyone.
FYI - Mark is an excellent photographer. You all should have seen his set up. Can't wait for the pictures.
