The Jaguars curse continues
I've never seen a guy place the ball for the kicker as good as Brunell, lol. Go get that ring!
Yeah, but the Saints curse is gone. Woo Hoo!
I just wonder if the NFL had the foresight to create an "NFC Championship Game MVP" hat small enough to fit that coin.

To honor Mark Brunell, I shall visit one of his Whataburgers tonight!
Even though the outcome was good (IMHO), I still don't like "sudden death" for NFL overtime - especially in the post season. Play 10 minute OT periods, give each team 1 possession, something to take away the influence of the coin toss.
Well, if the Vikes hadn't been picked off, they wouldn't have had to deal with OT. IMO, it is fine, you had chances to finish them off, but didn't, and suffer the consequences of not doing so.
^^^I agree. I hope that the NFL never goes to the college overtime format.
I guess it's kinda harsh to say curse, it's just.. Keenan, Tom, Leftwich, Brunell.
Bleh.

I agree. Each team should touch the ball at least once. That's too much riding on a coin toss.
Disagree. First do not allow yourself to get into an overtime situation... second... if you lose the toss... simply keep em from scoring.
Cards vs Pack... great example... :'(
Each team should get a shot to score, and both teams should be encouraged to score a TD rather than a Field goal. Win the toss, kick a field goal - not that difficult. Too much riding on luck, it should be about ability.

You could play this game with every team.
I heard on the radio this morning that the team that won the coin toss in OT went 7-6 this year. The college format is still better IMO.
Good for him - I'd like to see him get that ring.
On another note, how about David Garrard going to the Pro Bowl!
Good for Brunnell. He has been a great quarterback when he was 1st string; now that he is old, he deserves a ring based on past accomplishments. Don't think that he will be in the Hall of Fame but to get a ring, he should have it.
"HU"
He could have gotten a ring with the Jags but threw an INT in the end zone @ New England and was part of the epic collapse against Tennessee in 99.

I view it differently. To me, offense and defense are only half of the game, and only half of a team's overall strength. The NFL's overtime rules are like Major League Baseball calling a game in the top of the 10th inning if the first team up to bat scores a run. It doesn't make any sense to declare a winner without giving both teams a chance to score. Both teams could play a perfect game and still end up in OT. At the very least, if you're going to keep the sudden death, change the rules so that a team actually had to reach the end zone, instead of kicking an easy field goal.

that just epitomizes the value of the Pro Bowl!

HMMM, not getting how a coin toss is based on ability. Obviously the coin toss winner has an advantage, that is not based on anything other than luck.

Can the defense score in baseball? Didnt think so...
Cards vs Pack
Simply stop the team who wins the coin toss... or take the ball away. That is the beauty of football. Just do your job and you will win the game regardless of the coin toss.

I didnt say the coin toss is based on ability. Winning or losing is. If you lose the coin toss you have the ability to stop the winner of the toss or take the ball away and score.

^ What a joke!!!
Simple fact is:
In order for the Vikings to win, they had to BOTH defend against the Saints, keep them from scoring, and then score themselves.
In order for the Saints to win, they simply had to score.
To me, there's nothing fair about that, and it seems a rather arbitrary way to decide a game with so much at stake.
Over and done with now IMO, the Vikes had their chance and it was picked away, just like the Packers and Giants in 2007.
What is done is done, and the Saints are rollin to Miami in 2 weeks. No more "Who Dat?" It is now "WE DAT!"
No love for Bobby McCray or Paul Spicer? They're Saints too, but I suppose that their heart belongs to JAX since both recently built houses & reside here.

the aren't as religious as Brunnel so the majority of Jax's FBC citizens don't care about them :)
Allow me to properly finish this statement...
QuoteSimple fact is:
In order for the Vikings to win,
Favre should have run the ball or thrown it away and allowed Longwell to kick a field goal in regulation. :)
The Cards missed their field goal in regulation... Packers won the toss... and the Cards defense won the game for them.
Football is a simple game...
peterson and harvin should have held onto the damn ball. there shouldn't have been twelve men in the huddle. the special teams shouldn't have allowed the long kick-off returns. I have a hard time putting this one on Favre.
not to mention the dropped picks by the Vikings dbs
Me too... the simple fact is the Vikings lost this game on their own and the rules of overtime had nothing to do with it.
Considering that there are former Jaguars on about 50% of NFL teams, it's more of a coinflip and less of a "curse".
I wouldnt say curse as he hasnt been a Jag for a long time now.
Brunell was a great quarterback till he got hurt that one good time, then he lost his nerve and never really got it back.
I wanted to see the Vikings go so bad tho >_>
