I didn't get to see the news but saw on facebook that there is a fire on the 2000 block of Market St.? I hope it wasn't an occupied home. Best wish to the family if so.
Not in the warehouse district?
google street view looks like some historic (not well kept) homes on this block
Along with the vacant homes, the Ten Marko apartments (a jewel in the rough, imo) are in that block along with a good friend of mine. I hope there's more info on this...
I saw it on the news this morning. It was a one story bungalow house. Small front proch with brick columns. Kind of hard to give good detail because it was dark.
^^^that kinda describes three houses in a row...I know the fellow on the corner with the big lot - he used to live in the duplex next door to me. I hope he's OK.
Are there any links, pics available? Was it yellow? I recently made an offer on a small bungalow that fits this description on that block. I was outbid. I affectionately called it the hazmat house because it needed a massive cleaning.
^^there's a video clip on news4jax.com but I can never get those things to play.
Yes, this was the house I placed an offer on :( :( :( It's at 2011 Market St. The windows were all original and amazing. It was a beautiful house with so much potential. My intent was to move into it and rent out my much larger house.

Here's the Google street view (http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&q=2011+Market+St&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2011+N+Market+St,+Jacksonville,+Duval,+Florida+32206&gl=us&ei=EgdaS7fSI5S1tgfe2uCXAg&ved=0CAgQ8gEwAA&ll=30.348695,-81.650519&spn=0.017462,0.032401&z=16&layer=c&cbll=30.34859,-81.650519&panoid=Fl5xYhQV_4-sNVGuZ-WF9w&cbp=12,120.49,,0,9.31). Sad, looked like a cool little house.
I went by on Friday after work and walked all around it - didn't see any damage at all, so I guess it was a very small fire. Erick, the For Sale sign is still out front if you're still interested.
peestanding up .........this might be your chance to get into that area? Should be cheaper since there is fire damage and probably water damage also!

Yeah, I was thinkin that too! I will give them a call tomorrow & see if I can get some more info. May do a drive by too.
From the info I got on county record, its a multi-family house with units?? Not sure if its accurate info. Also, says that the outside walls are asbestos. :-\ I'm sure the place is gonna need a WHOLE lotta love, but I'll def check into it.
PSU, almost every house in Springfield, at one point or another, was sliced and diced from single family to multifamily. My house was never a true duplex, but the beginning stages had been started, and I had to tear down a wall that was added later.
Almost any house you buy that hasn't yet been fixed up will have "multi-units"
BTW, just a point, if you do get a fixer upper, make sure you take your tools with you when you leave the work site. Nothing more frustrating than losing your stuff while trying to do a good thing :-/

Might not want to use the term "drive by" in reference to Springfield LOL, might give the wrong impression :) just kidding.

I was refering to Drive by shootings LOL.
Big guy..........I was referring to the house:)
My mistake the correct address is 2021 Market St.
good news is, fire kills termites. ;)
Don't worry to much about the asbestos shingles on the house. Many homes have them. The asbestos in asbestos shingles is very stable. Do some research on that. They were popular mid-century to "save" the siding, insulate and hold paint. They did save the siding, and they do hold paint. Our house had a 20 year old paint job when we bought it that still wasn't peeling from the shingles. It was faded and kind of ugly, but it wasn't peeling. :-)

The only thing I don't like about asbestos is, it tastes funny :) Or maybe that was the lead based paint I used to chew on?
LOL.
