JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's homicide unit was called Monday evening to a stabbing in the 2100 block of Gilmore Street in Riverside.

Rescuers said one person was taken to Shands with life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating the stabbing.

Quite disturbing.

My parents live a few blocks away from there.....though i'm sure it wasn't random.

72-Year-Old Man Stabbed In Riverside
24-Year-Old Charged With Aggravated Battery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 24-year-old man is in jail charged with stabbing a 72-year-old man in the neck Monday evening.
Police called to the 2100 block of Gilmore Street in Riverside found Napolean Shuman sitting in a chair with a knife in his neck. He was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center in critical condition, but authorities said he was expected to live.
Freddie Walthour Jr. was arrested about 30 minutes later and charged him with aggravated battery. According to the arrest report, Walthour admitted to detectives that he stabbed Shuman during a struggle.
The stabbing occurred at the home where Walthour lives with his father. Police have not released a motive for the stabbing.
Walthour was being held on $50,000 bond.

Residents in the immediate area said they were shocked to hear about the stabbing.
"I've never seen anything like that happen in this neighborhood and I've been around her for, like, eight years," Thaddius Way said.
"He's in my prayers. Him and his family are in my prayers," neighbor Mayomia Ford said. "He's a real good person. He don't bother nobody."
