I remember my grandfather listening to the radio all the time and as of late I've discovered NPR and public radio stations on my iPhone.. Is there a particular radio show you listen to and why?
On NPR I usually make sure to catch some stuff-
Zorba Paster is great, good advice and the two hosts crack each other up, it's always entertaining. The recipes tend to be really good too.
This American Life - I go back and forth with this one. I like most of the segments but then some of the people they have on there just come across as pathetic or just whiny and I just usually yell "SHUT UP!" and change the station.
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me- It's a pretty funny quiz show but I honestly liked it a lot better when they didn't have an audience all the time.
I listen to Car Talk sometimes as well, they're funny and provide good tips for stuff.
I used to work the day shift on Saturday mornings when most of these shows came on and just about everything that comes on Saturday is pretty good. I've found some really interesting books by listening to "To The Best of Our Knowledge" and the world-travels show is neat as well.
Call me a simpleton but NPR is way to bland during my morning zombie commute. L&T do a good job of waking me up and making me laugh.
Sports talk... :o
Wait Wait...dont tell me.
Car Talk
Diane Reames
Electro Lounge
Bubba the Love Sponge in the morning.
XM/Sirius any other time.
Radio is bubble gum for the ears, I listen to tapes and CDs.
The Dan Patrick Show is the best morning radio.
If you don't like "A Prarie Home Companion" you're a commie.
Garrison Keeler is hung like a mule.
Neil Boortz is a beast as well.

I just disovered "A Prarie Home Companion" that guy, what's his name? Is so good. Good clean fun.
Guy Noir? The host of the show, and the person playing the role of Guy Noir is Garrison Keillor.
"And now a word from the Catchup Advisory Board."

If you like it on your iphone. try it on a vintage radio. maybe it just me but the sound of talk radio just sounds better
Forget radio. Pandora gives me exactly the music I want, whatever my mood, when I want it and for as long as wanted. CD quality through my stereo system. I have channels from Country to Vivaldi to Rock.
There is NOTHING on local radio worth listening to.
Listening to Garrulous Keeler mooing away in his depressive monologues will drive you to suicide.

I have an old Macintosh MR65 tube tuner. Will that work?
Only if you can find paper coned speakers. LOL! Those amps are wonderful.
NPR is IMO the best thing we have in radio here. I don't think there is enough intellectual interest here or perhaps anywhere else in the south to support what I would consider good radio. By that I mean radio that informs and stimulates the intellect. Radio to most people here is music. So most people here are quite happy with head-bopping music all day along. I have an all- tube Grundig. Shortwave is the way to go.
I listen to XM Radio 8)

If everyone were as smart as you, it wouldn't be such a great acheivement.
What does it take to get a short wave lic?
You don't have to have a license to listen, just to broadcast. They have even dropped the Morse code requirement for a broadcast license. Go to the FCC website.
This American Life like all the time.

No need to feel inferior, we can't all be equally smart. ;)
Just because I don't feel inferior, doesn't mean I'm not.
