An interesting futuristic "documentary". The first half is told from the perspective of a child born on January 1st, 2009. In this doc she witnesses a drastic worst case scenario happen to the world as her life progresses throughout the 21st century.
The 2nd half is a bit more optimistic.

QuoteEaster Island, the Mayan ruins, and the abandoned pueblos of Chaco Canyon all stand as haunting monuments to extinct civilizations. Each of these societies collapsed because of man-made ecological disasters. Each confronted choices chillingly similar to the ones we face today. Are we living in the last century of our civilization? Many of the world's top scientists say yes, unless we quickly learn the lessons of the past. This two-hour special examines the current path of our modern world. Top U.S. Army, intelligence, and policymakers who have modeled a scenario of the next century say that if we continue on this trajectory, over the next hundred years the "perfect storm" of population growth, resource depletion, climate change, terrorism and disease will converge in an unstable world with catastrophic results. What lessons of the past must we heed to survive?

I love The History Channel. Lately however there seems to be a huge increase in the "Apocalypse" type shows. For example...
Seven Signs of the Apocalypse:
Life After People:
Apocalypse Man:
Mayan Doomsday Prophecy:
Decoding The Past: Siberian Apocalypse
First Apocalypse:
Black Blizzard:
Mega Disasters: Hypercane
After Armageddon
Apocalypse Island
Clearly these shows are popular... at least for now. I watched a bit of Apocalypse Man the other night. The survival expert scurries through the desolate urban and suburban landscape demonstrating survival techniques for the few remaining humans on the planet. (It looks like it may be Detroit) I thought it was semi interesting but moved on to something more uplifting... like football.
I used to love the History Channel. But sometimes they try too hard to be TLC with the dumb reality shows.
And if you have Comcast you have to have digital package with a box to see it.
