I believe our beautiful city is catching up with and even surpassing other cities throughout the country. That being said, what are some major retailers, restaurants, etc that you would like to call Jacksonville home? Thanks!
Macy's, Saks, Crate&Barrel, Tiffany and Co., IKEA, Blue Martini, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus to name a few.
Bass Pro Shop
Chain restaurants are the work of the devil. Why would I want to be saddled with the same shitty food in every US city? Homogenized, over salted, greasy reheated meaty treats. Yum.
Think globally, eat locally...
Crate and Barrel would be nice. I'd like to see a Virgin Megastore type of place, too (or did those all close down?)...
I must confess I don't understand the big deal about Macy's. My fiancee and I visited Macy's in Chicago and New York and neither one of us was impressed (she being the big shopper). Kind of like a slightly more upscale Dillard's or Belk or something.
As to chain restaurants, though they may be the work of the devil, I would like to see something like Rainforest Cafe or T Rex Cafe. Perhaps an eatery involving robots.
Sak's, Crate & Barrel, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, IKEA, Restoration Hardware, Tiffany, Hugo Boss and as far as chain restaurants, they have their place as well. Local eateries probably couldn't afford the type of rent high end chain restaurants can.

Bass Pro Shop
Adding Bass Pro to Bricktown in OKC was a cornerstone of that area's revitalization. I'd love to see an urban Bass Pro become a regional attraction in Jacksonville.
The citizens of Jacksonville have an IKEA. It's in Orlando.

Orlando and it's traffic can go f themselves, IMO. We don't want to travel 2 hours, we want it up here, keeping the sales tax dollars here and not in Orange County.
We should be able to get a Saks off 5th at least, I would think. IKEA our demo isn't big enough..

There's one at the St. Augustine Outlet Mall.
I personally wouldn't mind seeing an H&M or Zara. Even a Nordstrom Rack would be nice.
REI
Oh, and I'm still holding out for a California Pizza Kitchen... Yes, I know... chain resturants, satan's spawn, yada yada yada... but c'mon, it's good stuff.....
Fry's Electronics. 2nd California Pizza Kitchen, quite tasty.
I would like a Macy's. A real Macy's like at the Millenia Mall in Orlando. Not some Macy's in name only like in Daytona.
Yes, a Millenia style Macy's and CPK for sure.
Two months from now someone else will make another redundant and obligatory "Jax needs 'insert upscale store/restaurant' thread". I cannot wait until then.
Sometimes I wonder....

Well, for people that don't know how to use the SEARCH feature.
To all above, sorry for the inconvience. Next time, just don't respond, its really that simple!!! Sarcasm on message boards really is pathetic. Seriously, was it necessary to be an ass?
Well....i guess stores are cool, wouldn't mind some other options. I would really love to see more big name concerts. I don't understand why artists go from Orlando to Atlanta...and just skip over Jacksonville. ???
because the old colosseum was such a poor venue, most folks took it off their radar. maybe better advertisement of the new venue would put it back on the radar screen.

I don't know if your being sarcastic or not; either way, I probably shouldn't have started going ballistic. So either way, I wave the white flag. I suppose next time I will search before posting.
Macy's, California Pizza Kitchen, Hugo Boss, H&M, Ikea, Nordstrom, Saks 5th Ave. Kenneth Cole, Bloomingdales, Trader Joe's, Season's 52, Johnny Rockets, Fuddruckers
Season's 52.
didn't we used to have a Johny Rockets at the Landing years ago? I could be mistaken.
I'd second the Trader Joe's idea. And a real Macy's - no, the internet doesn't quite fill the need there.
I want a Macy's like they have in Orlando not what they have in Daytona.
I do remember a Johnny Rockets at the Landing when I was younger. Was it next to Hooter's?
The Johnny Rockets used to be where the mexican restaurant is now.
Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus are an extremely long way off. Jax simply doesn't have the income demographics to support these stores yet. The St Johns Town Center has talked a lot about Nordstrom, but they have been rebuffed so far.
IKEA is probably never coming here. We are too close to Orlando's store. (I've posted this in other threads about Jax retail, and someone always gets angry with me. However, IKEA's store location strategy has been pretty well documented in several business school case studies. Until they fundamentally change their market analysis, we are NOT getting an IKEA.)
As for Macy's and Bass Pro Shops - I have no idea why they aren't already here. Jax easily fits the demographic requirements for both these companies, possibly even for multiple locations in the metro area. It's a real head-scratcher why they aren't here already.
My personal request would be for a Trader Joe's. I'm not a huge fan of all this hippie organic crap, but I appreciate Trader Joe's focus on value pricing. $3 for a decent bottle of wine is the only reason you need.
As far as Macy's and Bass Pro Shops maybe the City is doing a poor job of actually selling the City to these potential retailers. Who knows. I know I have emailed Bass Pro Shops and inquired about why they aren't in Jacksonville. No response.
Well, we do have Gander Mountain. Bass Pro is just that with a big fish tank and more boats to be honest. I'd go for Cabela's instead.

A former marketing professor of mine ran/or still runs a consulting firm and worked closely with the town center. Nordstrom had every intention of opening a store at the town center but would only commit to a 2 year lease due to the questionable economy and with jacksonville being a relatively new market for them. The powers that be at the town center wanted at least 4 or 5 year commitment and Nordstrom wouldn't do it. Believe it or not, they're still trying to get them so hopefully not all is lost.
I don't think all is lost. Nashville's recently broke ground after being pushed back a year due to the economy. The next SE location is going to be at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, Alabama, just south of Birmingham.
If Simon wants them bad enough, they'll flex to what Nordstrom wants, and should. They should also not forget about trying to move Belk into one store, and then trying to land another big name to The Avenues.
The Macy's at millenia was always a Macy's. The Macy's in Daytona (and others in florida, ocala for one) was a Burdine's they changed to Macy's when Macy's bought them. Still a nice store but no Macy's. We never had a Burdines ("the florida store") so we never got a Macy's.
Anyway, to add to the list of food, we don't have a Romano's Macaroni Grill, Red Robin, Uno Chicago Grill. I'm ok with that, I love our local selections!
there isnt a Cabelas...Jax could use that in a big way!
the attitudes on these replies is all wrong. Closed mindedness n insecurity is all over them. People really need to read about over metro cities.
i say read because actually traveling to other major metros is difficult for many. People want options, especially women. Could u imagine a major metro with no Mcdonalds, wal mart or jc pennys? these places r everywhere right? Jax NEEDS many things both for locals n visitors. no need to get upset when someone ask what does Jax need.
It's the most amazing outdoor store ever!!! www.rei.com (http://www.rei.com)
^TRUE! It would instantly put Black Creek Outfitter$ out of business. I'm tired of dropping $250 any time I need outdoor gear.
