The Boys From Brazil based on fact?
Joseph Mengele, the escaped Nazi war criminal and SS physician, known as the Angel of Death, spent years doing bizarre medical experiments on twins at Auschwitz working to determine if twins held the key to building a blond-haired, blue-eyed master race for Adolf Hitler. Now a historian says he has evidence that Mengele's attempts may not have ended at Auschwitz, and that his obsession to engineer an Aryan master race continued, and that succeeded while he was on the run in South America. Deep in the Brazilian outback in a tiny town among the 80 households in a one-square-mile area are reportedly some 38 pairs of twins. Blond, blue-eyed twins. Bizarre and inexplicable, could they be the product of Mengele's machinations? Now, with exclusive access, EXPLORER goes inside the investigation; From the secret agents who trailed him, to the scientists now uncovering the facts behind the fantastical phenomenon, no stone is left unturned.

That's actually rather fascinating
Yes it is... it will be interesting to see where the investigation leads...
What if it turned out to be factual and he was able to succeeded in the gene manipulation. The notes would be intresting to take a gander at.
Is the doctor of death still on the run btw?
This was on TV last night on NGC they did all kinds of tests and proved it was not Joseph Mengele the occurrence of twins went way back prior to his arrival
before the Nazis came to power? Although Im not sure the political consquances of admiting that it was Joseph's work that came out to hold water being the nice guy he was. "Hey he did horrible things...but he was kinda right!!!" I dont think that would go over really well
I cant honestly belive there wasnt an "escape plan" for the Nazi's since alot of them seemed to go to South America.
Course on the other end if it runs deep in family and there was inbreeding or something I suppose the likely hood of twins reoccuring multiple times is greater?
From what I have read in the past, Some of the knowledge we have about how long someone can live under hypothermia condition came from the Nazi's
alot of information came from them, some things are easyer for others to readly admit, and want to admit where teh research came from I suppose
Some of our current medical knowledge came from the death camps. So yes, we have a lasting legacy from the nazis.
Sick, but we can at least keep that knowledge so that the next group of sickos won't do the same experiments on people.....
That said, I watch the show on NGC. Very interesting. Although I wonder why there were a ton of blue eyed blonde twins...
good can always come from bad, with that said...
I should be elected as supreme ruler of the world!
Sorry guys, but the Nazi's at their worst we're choir boys compaired to the Imperial Japanese Army. Worse still, with the IJA we don't have to wonder if the information from hideous experiments were used by the allied military. In a (then_) secret deal, the US and UK allowed the Japanese doctors, commanders and guards walk away in exchange for the medical notes.

I'm sure quiet a few people of different faiths (mainly that of Judaism) would disagree with you Ocklawaha.
I think they both where on par with one another on the atrocities and evil of the experiments.

Doesn't really matter to me one way way or the other, I'm just stating as a historian, the Nazi's collected victims from certain groups of people, however it was completely possible to be a Nazi and a humanitarian. In the infamous "Rape of Nanking" the local Nazi leaders realizing the Japanese had no such "groups" and were murdering anyone and everyone, they went out in the city and started putting Nazi armbands on Chinese citizens. Herding them into the Nazi headquarters, Japan couldn't kill Nazi's that were supposed to be their allies. Thousand were saved, on other fronts, there are many story's of Nazi's taking prisoners who were well treated, in fact very few of their camps by sheer numbers were "extermination camps."
None of this Nazi "love" would appear during the Japanese occupations. EVERYONE who was not Japanese or card carrying Nazi's were rounded up and tossed into death camps. The deaths in the Japanese Camps far exceeded those of even the Nazi death camps. Why? Because to a IJA or IJN soldier or sailor, anyone who surrendered, was less then human. The Japanese military code gave every member of the military 100% decision on what to do with the occupied peoples. If a sailor wanted to use you for sword practice, or your head for baseball, sucked to be you. Hopefully you see the difference in the mind set of the two very different cultures. OCKLAWAHA
Okay, as an identical twin who happens to have children who are fraternal twins, this whole topic gives me the creeps.

Did Nazi doctor Josef Mengele carry on his sadistic science decades after World War II?
Recent reports have held up a remote Brazilian townâ€"filled with blonde, blue-eyed twinsâ€"as evidence of Mengele's postwar attempts to add to the ranks of an Aryan "master race."
But research announced today says Cândido Godói's "Nazi twins" are nothing more than a myth.
Germany v Japan? In the side discussion on who was worse, consider that of the total allied sailors and soldiers captured by our enemy's, 4% died in German prison camps. The German death toll for allied troops is pretty close to the average death toll for that many people. The Japanese prison camps were a different story. 25% of all allied service men and women captured by Japan died. Most Japanese prisoners died of starvation, disease and being worked and beaten to death in slave labor camps. Persons from the occupied oriental countries fared much worse, with tens of millions dead.
It would be interesting to see if the two ever worked together on their twins research projects. Certainly any held by Special Unit 731, for medical studies is not talking.
