Title: Living Sand Architecture. Saving the Planet from the Desert, providing Housing

This is amazing.

I wonder if this would work to create sand bars that would last long enough to prevent the incessant dredging

Wait... saving the planet from the dessert?

I know our planet has a bit of a bulge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_of_the_Earth), but I wouldn't call it fat and that it needs to go on a diet. ;/

Very interesting concept, solid sand structures formed of bacteria.  It will take more thinking since it has always been my impression that sand moves around and does not stay in one place. Those trees could be covered pretty quickly I think.

BTW, Reaper was commenting on dessert and desert. One which you want more of because it is yummy and one which is an arid place we want less of.
