The proposed $127 million Jacksonville Transportation Center (JTC) will involve bringing the old Jacksonville Terminal (Prime Osborn) back to its original use. When complete the terminal will serve JTA buses, the Skyway, Greyhound, Amtrak, and potentially commuter rail. Other components include 2,200 parking spaces, +30,000sf of retail, and a transportation office building for JTA.

My never so humble opinion is this whole project is a TOY for JTA management. I was perhaps the first one in the City to suggest Union Station as a Transportation Center. But after reviewing this, it's pretty much JTA standard fare. So what would the Smart ass, big mouth, Old Hippie change?

1. Get the convention center somewhere that makes sense... Hang it under the Hart Bridge if that's what it takes, but get it OUT of LaVilla! YESTERDAY! #%(*&!^@#!%)$^!$

2. Use the convention center building and recycle it for train, commuter rail, trolley, and inter-city bus. This could possibily be done cheaper then building a palace, and there is plenty of room for retail too.

3. Leave the Skyway station where it is for now, at some future date I would look to get it over by McCoys creek at ground level with across the platform transfers to Train, Commuter Rail and Trolley. But for now, it's there, just use the Skywalk into the Transportation Center.

4. Build the J-Transit offices where the old Post Office was, there is also a parking lot that could be turned into a garage. All this could be done and STILL leave room for some future railroad additions.

5. Turn all that now vacant "historic district" into a REAL fun area, let developers do what they do best. Sell the land with high penaltys attached,  if they (devlopers) don't get their butts in gear fast... they lose it. Again, the City has removed historic Jacksonville, and prime property for another Welfare Project for Public Authoritys.

6. I said J-Transit since if I were KING, the Highway Authority would be sent somewhere else... Maybe the Trout River or Dunns Creek... except we'd be fined for killing a lot of fish. Thus, Transit and Highways would be split like they are in the rest of the entire NATION!

That's my view...

How far would the system reach?  Could I take Amtrak to OP?

Gatorback: If our system was up and running the way other "World Cities" have done it. You should be able to take "JAX-TRAIN" from downtown to about Green Cove Springs. My guess would be something like this:

Since Metro-Jax did a great piece on the FEC line to St. Augustine, I will jump on the other two:

Jacksonville (Transportation Center) *1, *2, *3 *JTA
Stockton Street *JTA
Edgewood  *JTA
San Juan  *JTA
NAS *JTA/USN
North Orange Park (Bus for OP Mall/Argyle/Meadowbrook etc...) *CTA/JTA
Orange Park (Kingsley) (Bus for OP High School/Blanding/Middleburg) *CTA
Doctors Lake
Flemming Island
Magnolia Springs
Green Cove Springs (City Bus + shuttles to Penny Farms and points South) *CTA

North Line:
Jacksonville (Transportation Center) *1, *2, *3, *JTA
Shands/8Th St *JTA
Springfield *JTA
Panama Park/Phoenix *JTA
Imeson/Hecksher (Bus to Cruise Port/Blount Island)
Dunn Avenue/Busch *JTA
International Airport (Shuttles to and from Airport Terminals) *JT
Yulee (Shuttles to St. Marys, Kings Bay NS) *NTA
Fernandina Beach (Centre Street) (City Bus Connections) *NTA

*JTA... Jacksonville Transit Agency (regular City Bus services)
*JT..... Jax Train - Dedicated Shuttle Bus Service
*CTA.. Clay Transit Agency (regular City Bus services)
*USN.. US Navy - Dedicated Shuttle Bus services
*NTA.. Nassau Transit Agency (regular City Bus/Van services)
*1...... Connects at TC with Skyway: Stadium, Hospitals, Edward Waters, Memorial Hospital/San Marco, Riverside, Shands Center
*2...... Connects at TC with All City Bus and Commuter Bus Links
*3...... Connects at TC with all Jacksonville Traction Company Trolley's: Fairfield/Stadium, Riverside, Springfield

That's a peek into my head anyway... hope y'all enjoyed it!
