Title: Jags vs. Bills, People Better Show Up!!!!!
Post by: cdb on November 17, 2009, 09:21:57 AM
This Sunday is even more important than last Sunday. The Jags have an opportunity to really get good footing in the race for the wild-card position in the playoffs with a win over the Bills this Sunday. I will be out there with my 3 friends at 10am tailgating away. I hope the "on the fence" fans get off their lazy butts and head down to the stadium to watch a "new and improving every week" Jacksonville Jaguars. The team is working hard and need to see some supportive fans out there this weekend. Buffalo usually has a decent amount of fans so we need to get out there and support our team and our city, highlights of this game will be all over ESPN, FOX, CBS and the NFL Network when we win and we don't need anymore wise comments from the media people about Jacksonville. Just buy tickets and come have a good time, it won't be too hot, so I don't want to hear that excuse. The product on the field is good, so I dont want to hear that excuse either. If you can't afford it, I understand, but if you can and call yourself a football fan, you should be there. Go Jags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be there, in my usual seat.

For anyone interested, there are group-rate seats available to the public through several outlets; like the one for Winn Dixie Customer Reward Card holders (http://"http://winndixiegrocerystores.com/crc-discount-on-jags-tickets.html"), or through True To The Teal (http://"http://www.truetotheteal.com/2009/11/10/jaguars-ticket-deal-%E2%80%93-jaguars-vs-buffalo-bills/") (Free T-Shirt included).  If you order through the second link, you're registered to win field passes for the game.  Gotta order by Thurs, though.

Watch David Garrard's Twitter (http://"http://twitter.com/davidgarrard9") account also-  He's giving away 9 pairs of tickets this week.

Sportmotor is one of those who watch the pirated internet stream.

And seriously, dude- you can't spend 40 bucks at the W-D link above to buy an upper-deck seat and hang out in the Bud Zone?  They have TV's in there if that's your thing.  If you truly can't, it's cool. But dang.

If you want FREE tickets, just follow Garrard's Twitter and wait for him to announce where he'll be handing them out. He gives away 9 pairs for every home game.  If you can get to him first, the tickets are yours, no strings attached; though he does give you this letter about "paying it forward."

That said, if you can only go to one game this season, save up for the Colts game.

I'll be there in the nosebleeds, (I actually like it up there) when there's a lull in the game you can look across the river and see what's going on.

Hopefully they're will be a small bump in attendance. It'd be nice to clear at least 50-55,000.

Any sign of improvement would be great to see.

We are in the playoff hunt and have a chance to win 3 in a row.

I would hope to see 55k or more.

We need at least 60K, cmon Jacksonville, you wanted a good product on the field, you got it. You wanted a balanced offense, now you got it... the weather wont be too too hot, there are no more excuses, buy tickets....

But now the defense isn't good.

And it will be in the 50's Sunday morning.

And my feet hurt.

Super pumped for the game this weekend!

3rd year in a row playing the Bills at home.

1st game the Jags blew them out.

Last year we lost on a last minute drive.

I hope we can pull off the 3rd win in a row.

The Bills run defense is pretty poor... I hope MJD breaks the NFL rushing record... in front of 60K fans.

Only way I want MJD breaking the single game record is if he does it on 20 carries or less!  Jennings still is not a reliable backup and we need to keep MJD fresh.

A thought I had.... anybody who has any semblance of reason knows that Tim Tebow is not going to be a top-15 or even first round pick.  I, personally, would be amazed if anyone picked him before the 3rd round, but what do I know...

My thought:  What percentage of "Gator fans 1st/ Jag fan when convenient" people do you think are silently pissed off we are winning because we may fall too low in the first round and miss Tebow?  I bet it's at least 15%.  They are so myopic about Tebow they think he's gonna be in the top 10 next year and if we keep winning, we're going to blow it.

Every Gator fan I've talked with about drafting Tebow looks at me strange when I say I support drafting him, so long as every Gator fan that wants the Jags to draft him sign a 5 yr agreement to purchase season tickets.

I go when I get corp seating on the 50 yard line on vistor's side about 2 rows up with free parking, on night games. I cant stand day games.

Edit: ok I just relized how uppty that sounded but its true lol

I truly believe under the new GM our drafting will be stellar... this years draft class is already very impressive.

I think Gene keeps control and draft's the best available player in each round in the upcoming draft.

I just hope there isn't a backlash fan reaction from not targeting and selecting Tebow. If fans can trust the the front office and Gene Smith to conduct another draft or two like this past years, we will be a consistent playoff team over the next 10 years or so.

Maybe in 5 years or so when the team is successful and the stadium is sold out, I'll be thankful for buying & keeping my season tix when I did and to not be on the waiting list  8)

First of all, GO JAGS!

Second of all, Dos Gatos, Jacksonville's new cocktail lounge across from the Florida Theatre, will be open at 11am on Sunday for pre-game partying. You can park in the giant lot next door for free and walk the few blocks to the game. It's going to be a beautiful day...

If you don't have tix, come and watch Sunday football with us. It'll be more fun than sitting at home and we'll have some great specials to match...

That's what I've been telling myself.  We did indeed have a waiting list not that long ago (2006), and when we get back to that I won't be able to buy just single-game tickets for the games I can make it to from Virginia...

The draft class this year was amazing, and is probably the best in the NFL as far as production goes. As happy as I am with it, I will not set myself up to think every draft class will be this successful, but if Gene Smith keeps it up, we should be fine. We have 6-7 rookies producing this year, I'll take 3-4 next year. To think we will have 6-7 every year is crazy. But the youth of this team has me excited and I have said in other threads on here, I will keep getting my tickets every year because once we start selling out every year it will be impossible to get tickets for the price I pay now, especially when the economy rebounds.
Title: Re: Jags vs. Bills, People Better Show Up!!!!!
Post by: Wacca Pilatka on November 17, 2009, 05:43:47 PM
It's unbelievably rare for a draft class to produce like this.  Not just the quality but the number of players who are already contributing and have the potential to do much more.  It's pretty unusual even for every draftee to make a team's roster in his first year.  Not even in 1995 with our expansion team did that happen.

Vic Ketchman remarked that he hadn't covered a draft this good since that of the 1974 Steelers.  To put that in perspective, that team took Swann, Stallworth, Webster, and Lambert in the first five rounds (though they got nothing out of their later round picks--the draft went 17 rounds then).  And Vic also covered an excellent '87 Steeler draft that included Rod Woodson, Hardy Nickerson, Greg Lloyd, and a couple of other guys who started in Pittsburgh's defensive backfield for at least a few years.

I'm just amazed at the depth of the quality picks in this draft, to be snagging guys like Dillard and Thomas and Miller in the 4th-6th.  I was a Broncos fan before the Jaguars came along and it was a miracle if the Broncos didn't call it a draft after about round 3--shoot, one year the first round pick (Ted Gregory) didn't make the team!

It's gonna take awhile before we can fill the stands again, hopefully we can at least fill it up for the colts games. That's why I will be rooting for the Colts until they play us. A win over them and the Pats would help to maybe sell out the Cleveland game
Title: Re: Jags vs. Bills, People Better Show Up!!!!!
Post by: Wacca Pilatka on November 18, 2009, 01:48:53 PM
46k isn't good, but it's not the final figure.  Tickets distributed were just under 47k for Arizona, over 49k for Tennessee, just over 42k for St. Louis, and 45.5k for Kansas City.  We can't expect 21k ticket sales in a week just because the team is hot, but it's not unreasonable to expect several thousand more to sell, as happened immediately prior to the Tennessee game (as well as the playoff-chase games in 2007--Carolina, Oakland, and San Diego sold very strongly in the last few days prior to each of those games).

If I'm not mistaken, this game was in the weaker-selling of the two half-packs along with Arizona and St. Louis.  The fact that it's already ahead of the KC and St. Louis games in sales, and just under Arizona, suggests we ought to at least get into the low 50s.

The Cleveland game is on the road.  The Indy game is the last home game of the year.  If the Jaguars have to consistently rely on such as winning back to back games against undefeated Indianapolis and on the road in New England to sell tickets, we will never sell out the stadium.

It's sad that we depend on other teams on the schedule to sell tickets, the only team that matters is the Jags. I don't care who they are playing from Oakland to New England, I am there no matter what. Its going to be sad to see a bunch of Buffalo fans at the game this Sunday and empty seats cause we cant even get Jags fans out there for a HOME game.....

It makes me very angry.  I am living in Virginia this year, and this will be the 3rd game I have driven to Jacksonville for.  It's 9 hours.  I don't do it so I can brag, I do it because I love the Jaguars and want to see them win and stay in Jacksonville.  It is going to be another sad showing this week.  The only thing they can do is win this week and win at San Fran next week.  If they do that then hopefully people will show some support for the 3 game homestand.  I, unfortunately, will be in Jax. for the last time in 2009 this weekend, so I can't help anymore!

Wacca-

Lynchburg.  I am born and raised in Jacksonville and worked there for a couple years when I got out of school.  Moved here in 2007, but I am moving back this coming spring, so I'll have season tix next year and a much shorter commute to the stadium.

I think I have gathered you are over in Hampton Roads somewhere?

Feel free to bring a whole bus load of people from VA. We can surely use them in the seats.....

The thing I hate is the whole, "if we win this" or "when we win that", the seats will be sold, its a disgrace. I don't want this team to leave, I love having the NFL here and love the Jags, but if people don't wake up, we are going to lose this team. Then I'll have to go to a local sports bar to watch football and be surrounded by 100 Steeler fans who have never been to Pittsburgh, what is wrong with this city?

I was born and raised in NYC as a NY Giant fan and as soon as I moved to Jax I started watching the Jags. I bought season tickets 2 years later and am now in my 6th year as a season ticket holder. I understand supporting the team you maybe grew up watching, and I say maybe because I think most of the Steeler/Colt/Titan/etc... fans are all bandwagon fans. You have an NFL team here in the city you live in, how can you not support them? It just blows my mind. You were born in Orange Park or Southside and you wear a Big Ben jersey cause your grandfather was born in a town 90 miles outside of Pittsburgh, it makes no sense.

I am a die hard NY Mets fan and the one thing we always say is, "it's easy to be a Yankee fan".... That's how I feel about all these Steelers and Colts fans we have here in town.....

Im just venting.... GO JAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a Jags fan first and foremost, and I watch every game I can.  This is the first year I haven't been a season-ticket holder in quite a while.  That being said, The Steelers and Colts are fun to watch...what's not to like about that, too?  You were a Giants fan..why'd you stop being a Giants fan?  Because you moved to Jax?  I lived in DC for 12 years from the mid 80s to the mid 90s...never was a Redskins fan, even when they were winning Super Bowls.  You're complaining about bandwagon fans, yet you just admitted to jumping ship...I'm confused.

Agreed - I'm going to hit this hard in the fourth and fifth installments of the Jaguars series.  Jacksonville got too good too fast.  This team never has gone through a season like they are this year (2004 was similar, but not the same), which is a rebuilding year.  They've never had a disaster season (like a 3-13 year).  They went to the AFC Championship in 1996, their second year.  Furthermore, we have perrrenially good colleges (mainly because the college system allows them to be), and colleges don't have to build talent, because most players are starters for only two years.

One of the fun aspects to me of being a fan is to watch a player develop year after year.  The player I've enjoyed watching is Darryl Smith, one of their outside linebackers.  He's been a ton of fun to watch for me.

No i didn't mean it like that, Im still a Giants fan, unless they are playing the Jags and I enjoy watching the Steelers and Colts play, I actually enjoy watching anyone play, except maybe the Raiders (too depressing). The thing I don't understand is in such a football heavy city, how we can even have conversations about ticket sales when you can walk into any bar in this city on a Sunday and it is packed out with football fans... And buying Jags season tickets when I moved here was not jumping on a bandwagon, I actually couldn't even believe their were tix available and when I found out there were, I got them and have had them ever since. Being from NY, I went to maybe 3-4 Giants games in my whole life living up there and that was 25 years. Thats because it was impossible to get tickets, every game sold out, no such thing as black outs in NY. Going to a game in NY is a privilege not many people get to experience, even if they have money. So when faced with the choice of watching the Giants on tv or going to an actual NFL game, the answer was pretty clear to me. Id rather be there enjoying it live 10 games a year, instead of sitting on the couch at home or a a bar stool somewhere. And when I got my tickets the first year the Jags weren't even good and I loved every minute of it.

As far as the comments about the Steelers and Colts fans, go to a Jags game and sit around them for 3 hours, you will feel the same way... Just kidding.... Lighten up man, Im just taking shots at Steeler and Colts fans... Its all in fun...

Talk to 95% of Steelers fans in Jacksonville and it's hilarious.... My cousins ex-girlfriends brother lived in Pittsburgh for 3 years, that's why I'm a Steelers fan.... Hahahaha.... No it's not, it's because they win the Super Bowl and are in the playoffs almost every year, it's easy to be a Steelers fan, or a Patriots fan, or a Red Sox fan or a Laker fan.... If you are actually from there, then it's a different story.... But most of them down here are not.... I have never heard a southern accent on someone from Southie with a Tom Brady jersey on... And honestly I don't care who someone supports and don't care where they are from, but if you live in Jacksonville and love NFL football, then you should at least hit a game or to a year, even if your team isn't in town that year.

And as far as me, 25 years in NY and I support the Giants as long as their not playing the Jags and I live in Jax now and have season tickets, that's why I am a Jags fan and that's why I don't want to see them leave, they are good for this city and I have a great time and so does everyone I know that goes to games. GO JAGS!!!!!!!!!!

It's definitely going to be blacked out, there is no way the Jags sell $15K tickets btwn yesterday and today. I just want them to sell enough so when the national media runs the highlights on TV after we beat the Bills, it doesn't look like the stadium is empty.

I was born in a suburb of Pittsburgh and I am still a big Steelers fan. However I agree a lot with what CDB said. I wear my Big Ben jersey every Sunday the Steelers play and I receive a lot of comments about people supporting the Steelers, but when I talk to them the majority are not from there. I also have not missed a Steelers/Jag game here for the last 11 years, but with the success the Steelers have had over this last decade, every game is easier to go since there are so many Steeler fans.

Part of the problem with Steeler fans supporting the Jags, at least for me anyway, was that they were in the same division before the restructuring. As a kid I hated the Jags since in the later part of the 90's they were winning the division. After the restructuring I slowly came around, and have become a fan probably in the last five years.

Even lately I have enjoyed the years where they don't even play each other, even though it means I have to travel to see the Steelers. Also I plan on having season tickets next year, even though that will mean missing many Steeler games. However, if they are playing Pittsburgh I will be dressed in black and gold for that game.

^Well, if the Jaguars and Steelers can remain in 2nd in their respective divisions, they'll be playing at JMS next season.  The Jaguars will play the AFC North team finishing in the same place in the division.

They have usually rotated them in the past though, with home and then away. If it follows that scheme than the game will be in Pittsburgh since that last one was here. The AFC North is also set to play the South in 2011, so they may play each other the next couple years.

Here are the 2010 AFC opponents:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/10551681 (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/10551681)

QuoteJacksonville Jaguars
Home: Houston, Indianapolis, Tennessee, Denver, Oakland, Philadelphia, Washington, AFC North
Away: Houston, Indianapolis, Tennessee, Kansas City, San Diego, Dallas, N.Y. Giants, AFC East

So we'll host whomever is in the same position in the AFCN as we are in the AFCS.  It doesn't have to be the Steelers, but it would be nice to get them.

I'm assuming we travel in to PGH in 2011 because it's our turn to play the entire North.

Last time we played the entire North (2008) we had Pitt and Cle at home, so presumably in 2011 we'd have Balt and Cincinnati at home and play at Pitt and Cle.

I'll just be grateful if there's a 2011 season rather than a lockout, at any rate.

The lockout possibility will be discussed in part 7 to the Jaguars Series

Its good to see someone, especially a Steelers fan, agree with me. And as far as missing games, thats what the DVR/Tivo is for. Its good to see another out of towner who understands how lucky we are to be able to even get season tickets, and they are at probably the lowest prices in the NFL. With the way things are going, it will be all transplants buying the tickets and there wont be anyone in the stadium that's actually from Jacksonville.

Wake up Jacksonville, we need you to actually go buy tickets and support this team. We have a winning record and the offense is as exciting as it has been since I have been going to games. Dillard laying out over the 50 yd line for a huge 1st down against KC. The game against the Titans where we lit them up in the air.

The Seahawks and Cardinals games are behind us, this team is growing, get your tickets now before we become the best team in the AFC South and tickets will be hard to find. And if you plan on wearing a draft Tebow shirt to the game this Sunday, I beg you not to, it just shows your ignorance in understanding NFL football.

This offense is suddenly becoming a cornucopia of exciting players.  Jones-Drew, Sims-Walker, Mike Thomas, and I'd wager before long, Zach Miller.

And opinions obviously vary on Garrard, but even those who dislike him would have to admit, he's good for at least one absurd impossible escape per game.

You forgot Dillard, he will be special in a few years.... Garrard is good for now, but they better draft someone next year to start grooming cause he's not getting any younger....

Also with fantasy football being so big now, in a couple of years everyone in the country will know who Mike Sims Walker, Mike Thomas and Dillard are, and they already know MJD....

We just need our tough defense back in Jacksonville.... Imagine this current offense with the defense we had 2-3 years ago... They look like they are getting better though the last few games after the switch back to the 4-3. Losing Mathis for a few games is not good, but i would rather lose him against the Bills and 49ers and have him back for Houston, NE and Indy.

GO JAGS!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that the rain does not turn people away from going to the game today.
