Peterpan Musician and all around prince of mischief, Chris Spohn sent over details about the new place.

Sounds lovely! I am ALWAYS up for trying new places that serve Mid Eastern food. Nom Nom Nom!
Me and Steph went quite a few times the first few weeks it was open. We stopped going though because we kept encountering roaches the last few times we were there. One ran past us while we were on the couches hanging out one night. The next vist a baby roach ran out of a menu while I was with a couple other friends and then when she went to the bathroom she encountered 6 smashed and dead on her way to and in the bathroom.. so that was kind of a turn off and I haven't gone back to see if it has improved yet.
The owners and bar staff are really nice though... and their sangria is tasty.
If I hear the roach problem has been taken care of, I would go back. Roaches and I just do not go well together at all.. one of my biggest fears. ;D
That's pretty much what scared me off from a downtown pizzeria. It kills the mood when one of them scurries across your lunch.
I spent 4hrs there on Sunday and not a single roach....I'll mention your conserns to the owner and we'll have it clean in time for the dance party....

hahah, "nomnomnom" that's my favorite sound to make, EVER!
maybe the bug thing was just a short-term problem, i'd like to try it out soon as well.
Oh No! I do detest roaches and realise that with Riverside the pesty little guys are hard to get rid of. I might check out the place first by having a hookah with friends.
David...."nomnomnom" is a favorite of mine as well!
Dave, I have 3 free drink passes for Al Hilm in my apt somewhere. If I find them maybe we can go one day and I'll give it another go? I'll share my free drink passes too =D
Its a pretty decent place, and the people are really cool. I hope this place lasts longer than the beer garden that was there before!! :)
Yea I echo Mandy's cleanliness concerns. Their Sangria is good... and a few of their hookah flavors are tasty as well.
One thing to be aware of, their drink prices are not always what is printed. They have several typos, not sure if they corrected any of them.

I have some too! When we spoke with the manager about the bug problem he said he's never seen any there which seems strange since we saw sooo many during our week we spent there.
Hopefully they get it fixed quick, that place was fun and cheap during happy hour--and not as crowded as Casbah (...oh we're out of that!) or Layla's.
JaxNole, myself, and a couple of our friends hit up "Al Hilem" (as it's spelled on the coupons).
The place was engrish-tastic. I don't think there was a correctly spelled word in the place.
Was my first time. It was nice. But the place was DEAD last night. I mean.. DEAD DEAD. The only thing goin between our table and no-mans land was some strannnngggee redneck metal band dude from alabama that skeezed us out.
I wasn't that impressed with the drink prices. But the place was very nice/clean and the staff was super friendly. I'll go again, just not to drink. It was definitely a nice place to chill with friends ,though.
That location is probably cursed, like the restaurant of the week at the old hot-rod jax location on Park by I-95.
I forget who on here posted that link to the "you're not fooling anybody" website which made fun of obvious store conversions like a Pizza hut to Chinese take out or a KFC to a tax accountant's office, but that's exactly what I think of when I go to that place. "oh look, I’m sitting in a lil' champ parking lot!"
One good thing for those with small budgets: $7.99 hookahs on Monday and Tuesday. Chat up the staff, especially Al, and you'll get a 20% discount ticket for hookahs and drinks.
Not as popular as The Casbah, but with King poised to be a walkable nighttime "entertainment district" as soon as the new venue opens next to Park Place, it's worth multiple visits.

Yeah, but the Alabama guy, Matt-Mark-Matthias, left us with a free hookah!
