Title: Disney Train in Jax
Post by: jbroadglide on October 12, 2009, 11:41:02 AM
Okay something just for the fun of it. Disney has a special train all graphiced up to promote their new movie "A Christmas Carol" and have been going all over the country showing it off. That train will pass through Jax this Wednesday afternoon, the 14th, on its way to Miami for a few days. BUT it will be back in Jax for two days on the 20 and 21 of October. Its supposed to arrive at FEC Bowden Yard sometime Sunday and hold up overnight for a scheduled move to the Amtrak station on Monday morning. Then be open for visitors Tuesday and Wednesday.
Heres the website for those interested.

If it's heading down the FEC to Miami, it will cross the St. Johns River downtown.

That is correct. It will come down the A line from Savannah into Amtrak where it will be refueled and have an FEC crew brought abord. Then south through Honeymoon Yard, across the FEC bridge in downtown and on to Bowden Yard for the night. If its running on time, sometime between 2 and 2:30pm, she should cross the river.

Should make for a great photo opportunity, as it passes the ruins of Honeymoon and our Terminal. I would think it will have FEC Power on the point from Jax south, as they have PTC with in cab signaling, and Amtrak locomotives generally don't. An FEC locomotive leading a pseudo passenger train might be fun.

Its had the same two specially painted AMTRAK engines on it since it left LA a few months ago. I'd seriously doubt they would slap an FEC engine on the front. I could be wrong, as I often am, but I don't think Disney will do that. But the photo op from Baptist as it crosses the bridge with the water in the background is nice.

Well OCK as usual you are 100% correct. I checked with an FEC engineer friend and he said yep that train will have an FEC engine at the point both southbound and northbound. More than likely one of their newer SD70's. But should still be a fine sight to see.
