$20 says that 20 West Adams is not completed until the city has to pay to remove the eye soar.  The last GC didn't pay any of his subs for the work already done.  This will probably be held up in the courts for a long time...

The courthouse cranes look sweet from I95.  Hopefully Wolfson's will be moving forward soon, adding to the buzz.

You know what Lake?  I think that the new Baptist parking area could be making way for the proposed 4 story medical office building at the corner of Palm and Prudential.  That building will be taking up a good chunk of parking.

Maybe I'm just hoping...

I say this every month, but This is one of the highlights of my month!!  I'm so excited about all the new places to hang out that are being built.  Interesting bit of info, when you Google search "Dos Gatos, Jacksonville" two Metrojax links appear before the actual dos gatos website, which isn't helpful.

What is Jacksons??

Jason, I would like to agree with you on the baptist parking lot, but I don't think that is the case.  They aren't really increasing the size, just upgrading it to go with the proposed streetscape improvements.

Ahhh, ok.  I was thinking the majority of that area was somewhat wooded (overgrown) and not used.

I notice stuff like that all the time. I don't think a lot of business owners understand how to build, or take advantage of buzz. Pretty much anytime I hear of a new business opening around the core I do a quick google search to see what they are about. Most of the time I come up with nothing or a very lack luster webpage.

Business owners, take note. People will be interested in your business before you open your doors, establish a web presence and build off the buzz sites like Metro Jax create.

Great post MJ, the construction updates are always a great read.

There are a few trees on the site, but I don't think many of them have been removed.  It used to be a dirt, multi level (not on purpose, it just dips and rises), cracked, pothole filled, yuck lot.  More cars may fit on it now, but I do believe they are just improving the space.

What is up with all these vibrant pink/purple colors in Springfield? hehe

Must be a clearance sale on hideous pink at home depot? i don't know about eye catchy, it really looks more cheap and gaudy then anything.

Is that pink building really going to attract more customers?

Those colors make me want to yuke not eat.  I think they could do a better job.  Does not the design review board have some say over color choices.  I know Riverside has some regulations.

That fits Five Points in a way though.

Does anyone know what's happening at the northwest corner of Adams and Newnan? The old closed gas station type structure was a parking lot including covered spaces under the eaves by the pump islands but today I noticed a bulldozer on site and actively churning it up!

Oh, and as for Springfield those crazy new colors are all on the west side so far...just saying!

The Fish Market is on the east side of Main.

I'll hold my opinion on the colors until they are completed.

I stand corrected...I made the leap when Stephen mentioned colors on "the one next to Boomtown Loft" and I was thinking the old Boomtown and that he meant the Fish Market, but it seems he may have been referring to more than the two in question, ie Waffa's and the Fish Market. What color is the Fish Market anyway?  A fresh coat of paint always works wonders! What is Boomtown Loft?

Quite inspiring.  The Courthouse seems to be the main construction thing downtown now.  It is good to see those cranes creaking around and over construction of the Courthouse site.  Otherwise, seems kind of quiet around Jax, but same is happening around the nation.

I'll take crazy pink and fuchsia any day over boarded up windows and empty storefronts. Besides, I don't care what color they paint it, Wafaa and Mike's is awesome.

First Presbyterian Church, The Spirit of the City, has started it's parking lot beautification project. The parking lot is located between Adams & Monroe across from the old Morocco Temple bldg.

I think Wafaa and Mike's should have asked Content Design for some color suggestions.

The fish market may actually be in the Urban Facelift Project hopper....

Is the fish market only taking up the one bay at the north end of the building?
Title: Re: Downtown Construction Update - October 2009

From what I can tell, its taking up at least the three bays to the south.

^ Hmm, I can't tell...I thought with the paper only over the 1st bay that construction was taking place there, and the other bays almost look like their being used as storage.

NM, I zoomed in on the picture and can see that all of the bays are covered, the south 3 in plastic...

Thanks for the help!

I guess a beautiful parking lot is better than an ugly one.  Thanks for the info.

New article in the TU today says that the JEDC is going to help fund the build-out at 20 East Adams. They are going to pay $$$ to the owner as the floors are completed, so as not to give it all away upfront, as they have in the past. I like this and its good for downtown. Here is the link:

Makes sence to do it a floor at a time.  Hopefully this will get the damn building finished already!

The reason the metrojax links show up before the website is because it's a placeholder site right now. Metatags describing the site haven't been coded, so google shows what it shows in whatever algorithm it uses.
