I missed the weekend crash trash and bash activities and have some free time tonight and tomorrow. I was wondering if there was any activity at any bars or clubs on Monday nights downtown or surounding areas.
So... anyone know where there's a good place to go for people that don't have their days off on the weekends? :)
Every nite is quiet in Jacksonville.
It's 3:45 AM and I have to say I thoroughly disagree with the last post :P
Back in my single days I always had something planned for nearly every night of the week. And I don't think it's as quiet as it used to be...there's a healthy amount of nightlife options in the core area compared to just 5 years ago.
It just depends on what age you want to be around when you go out. Mondays usually have the youngest crowd and it gets progressively older as the week goes on, heh, or at least that's how my theory goes.
Dang, J-ville's best was Old Wave Night back in the day - $1 Mickey's @ The Milk Bar......BRING IT BAAAAACK............
Milk Bar..... Damn I miss that place!

...there is a milk bar?
>_> what is that exactly? lol
Milk Bar was THE punk/rock concert venue in Downtown Jax in the 90s. They also had legendary old wave night every monday with cheap drinks and great 80s music in the main room and hip hop DJs in the "green room". and it was PACKED every week. I miss that place dearly.
The Milk Bar was the first night club/Bar I went to when I first moved to jax in '98 to attend UNF. What a great place it was. I saw a lot of good shows there back in the day; Unwritten Law, Blink 182, The Bosstones... That place was awesome. Did it close down because of fire code violations??
I'm not sure why exactly it closed down, but code violations wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I know they moved to 618 W. Forsyth St. where it was immediately dubbed "Milkdome" due to the building's previous inhabitant, a club called Paradome. It was a nice place to see a show, but lacked the hot, sweaty, basement-dwelling charm of the original Milkbar.
Shanty Town's "Metal Mondays" where they have cheap quarts...
OR
If your down at the bech and you like Newcastle (one of my favorites) than it's $2 Newcastle pints at Ritz. Use to be only $1 but they recently raised it to $2.
do they serve milk?
maybe in a white russian or something?
Mondays are infamously loud in San Marco at Square One if that's your scene... they remind me a bit of some rap star music video.

Oh, the good days. I was at the Bosstones show. Hopefully downtown can attract some known names again soon. Just don't know which venue.
Who were the original owners? If they could put that brand with the same vibe on another venue downtown, people would crawl out of the woodwork - I mean, seriously, thirty-somethings would be popping up out of manhole covers all over this city. It really was "that" good & as much a part of my youth as the Jax Beach dance pavilion(s) must have been to my parents.
Not sure if he was the "owner", but I still see Jason from Milk Bar out and about from time to time...I think he booked the shows and managed the place. Maybe I'll ask him about it next time I see him.

do they serve milk?
My guess is they got the name from the A Clockwork Orange. The Korova Milk Bar would serve milk laced with drugs since they couldn’t sell alcohols to minors.
And Alex and his droogs would go there and get all horrorshow. edit: (Before hittin up the rest of the town for a lovely evening filled with rape and violent beatings of course)

well ok then! :D is good to know why its called a milk bar now
Alex:"There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening. The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence."
Alex:"It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van."

Luke Bryan on Dec. 2, Colbie Caillat on Dec 11 and Josh Gracin on Dec. 18 at Mavericks at The Landing. I don't know if you like those artists, but they are "names" that are playing downtown.
Stopped by City Hall Pub last night for a coupla pints. They're trying hard.
