Anti-Americanism from the voting members. Also, I think the commitee from Spain is run by the son of the former IOC head. Politics at work for sure.

right. Though it's not a conspiracy...it's transparent and an accepted part of the process.

Quote
Madrid's surprising success in reaching the final round came after former IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch made an unusual appeal for the Spanish capital, reminding the IOC members as he asked for their vote that, at age 89, "I am very near the end of my time."

And only about 1.5 million spent in jet fuel alone. That is what I heard. Give Barry credit. He tried to bring home the bacon to Chicago. Cronyism...sound familiar?  :-[

It's probably better for Chicago that they didn't win the bid since hosting cities usually loose money anyways.

I wonder in Rio will be able to come close to Beijing's olympic ceremonies, those were pretty epic.

Poor Chicago.  Jax probably would have had a better chance than Chicago.

Forget that, I'm wondering if Vancouver (Feb), London (2012), and Sochi (2014) can live up to those ceremonies...
