Jags 1st team looked pretty good last night. heads up plays. MJD got some yardage. I feel more confident today than I did yesterday about this season. Also another little quick fact I hear on the radio this morning: The Jags first team has been leading in all 3 pre-season games when they were taken out and the second and thrid string guys started coming on. That loss last night is not a big deal. The D looked ok, nothing special, but a huge heads up play on the fumble recovery for a touchdown, and the offense looked half decent. It's going to be a fun season folks. Better get your tix if you actually want to see it....
Go Jags!!!!
It was hard not to care when the Eagles made that last minute field goal. I know it was preseason, but it's still nice to win.
I don't know, I watched the game and that they didn't look all that great. They scored points but mainly because philly kept turning it over giving them 19 points. Jones-drew had some nice yardage catching, but he couldn't run worth anything, nor could any of the other running backs, which means that the o-line isn't much improved from last year. The passing game wasn't that good either. The defense caused turnovers which is good, but they couldn't stop philly from throwing all over them. They did stop the run though. I would grade them as a C for that game.
I agree with failing to stop the pass. That was so frustrating.
I watched the game on and off, I thought both teams looked more like they were playing high school ball rather than ball they're getting paid a very large sum of money to play. I'm trying to stay optimistic for our boys and our city though!
i don't expect much this season, but hopefully 8-8, but at least the last play doing all those laterals was fun to watch. Only if they could have finished it.

The downward slide from a 32 to 20 lead happened when they popped a pass off of a should pad creating a jump ball. Then the last play of laterals gave the ball to most of the team. Too bad they couldn't have made the shot from the three point line and made a basket.
Honestly, we played pretty good. Our defense bent but didn't break. Scoring points off turnovers is a good thing. MJD and the team have barely run the ball in the pre-season and Im ok with that because we need as much passing practice as we can get so we have a balanced offense. We were getting pressure on QB and we had a nice lead over Philly when the Jags first team started coming off the field. I am optimistic about this season and last nights game. The glass is half full Jags fans, not half empty.

The Eagles are a good team. They were one fourth down stop away from making the Super Bowl last year. The Jaguars first team winning 17-3 at halftime against them.

That's what I'm saying Copper, the first team is looking pretty good. Lets just stay healthy this year and you never know. Any given Sunday, right.... I liked the tenacity on D too, there were a ton of Jags flying to the ball all game, brought back flashes to 2007, this is definitely a different D and better D than last season.
Has anyone noticed how bad the tv production of the games has been this pre-season? Or am I the only one. Two examples just from last nights game. On a 1st down measurement, just as the chain gang is stretching the chains, the director cuts to a shot of someone standing on the sidelines..and doesn't retun to the field until AFTER the measurement was taken and the chains are being carried off. WTF???
Second example, I am listening the radio broadcast cause I like Jeff and Brian better and they are talking about McNabb coming onto the field, then coming off and Vick coming on, then Vick coming off and McNabb coming back on and the whole time, a good 30 seconds, the tv shot is again, someone standing on the sidelines. Just standing. Again, who the hell is the director in the truck??? At first I thought it was just ch47 typical screw ups then I found out the telecast is done by NFL Productions. So, what, they have a pre season also?? There were others, but those two stand out. Anybody else noticing the production seems to be lacking?
I thought both sides of the ball played well. You can't fault the offense for not enough yards when the defense was gifting them great field position and scores.
D-Line (interior) - did well stopping the run and get a little bit of pressure. (65 total rush yards allowed)
D-Line (ends) - Both Harvey & Hayward were disruptive. I saw Harvey working well against the double teams.
LB's - Played phenomenal! Brian Iwuh had a great night all around.
Secondary - Considine, Mathis and Alexander all had good games. Mathis showed some sure tackling which he was lacking last season. The corner & safety blitz's were real disruptive.
QB - Garrard looked decent especially setting up the couple screen plays. The back up situation is beyond bad. Losing Garrard would be devastating.
O-Line - looked mediocre - Eben Britton looked pretty good a RT and always finishes his plays.
RB's - MJD flashed in is few plays and Chauncey Washington looked pretty good... he reminds me a little of Marion Barber.
WR's - Mediocre performance all around. Jarett Dillard had a nice grab in the endzone.
TE's - Also mediocre.
Josh Scobe is dialed in right now... he's hitting 50 yarders like extra points.
Special Teams is definitely getting better... and with a lot of rotation from the bottom of the roster trying to make the team. I expect them to be pretty solid in the beginning of the season.
I still don't know about the offense. Our first half possessions went like this, punt, punt, touchdown, interception, field goal. With the touchdown being the only real good series we had, the field goal came off of a turnover where we didn't move the ball at all and just kicked it from where we got the ball from philly. I think we had like 100 total yards in the first half and philly had around 220 yards. Even though they didn't score much in the first half, you had to think that they were gonna score more often with how easy it was to throw on us. I just hope that the jags can get it together, especially the run game since that is suppose to be our bread and butter.
I'm not saying its doom and gloom to anyone, just don't expect to be a playoff team. if they do make the playoffs though, i would be incredibly happy

I wouldn't expect MJD to get 25 touches in pre-season game either.
I think Jones-Drew looked in midseason form on those two screen passes. He'll be fine.

Agree on all but the receivers. I think Holt had a few nice catches and Hughes made a good play on the TD before Asante Samuels gave him a cheapshot.

Okay, let's say they did that in the second half as well. That would be 20 points, which about average for an NFL team, against two win playoff team last year. Not bad, in my opinion. Remember, 20 points is pretty good in the NFL. The Steelers had just over 21 a game last year.
Holt is what we needed, someone who catches the ball when it is anywhere around him.... then Troy Williamson can spread the field with his speed, and after that it is toss up on the wr's... But I will take those 2 threats over anyone else we have had in the past few years. Williamson gets his confidence back and Garrard can get him the ball, watch out. That guy is super fast and has the potential to be a really good WR, and having Holt around to mentor him is awesome.

I agree it was a good catch and a cheap shot... but none of the receivers had much in yardage... that's why I say the WR play was mediocre.
CDB - That was an awful performance for the first team O. Just awful. The Jags had 64 yards on the ground. MJD only had 12 yards on 5 rushes, not what you want out of your 3rd preseason game. The Jags were outgained by 200 yards, so the D looked soft, and we had 12 more penalties. The Times Union reported that so far this year the team is converting only 26% of 3rd down tries, last night only 3 of 14.
David Lamm reported this week that there were only about 25-30k fans at the Tampa game, and he said lookout next Thursday, there could be even fewer. I'm interested to see if the Jags cut any vets with the 17 people on the block this week. Should be more fun to see who gets cut, than to watch the game again from last night.
I dont think anyone is expecting a team thats rebuilding to be a playoff team. We just want to see the team compete well. IMO the O line is still letting too much pressure get to DG and they are not moving the D-line inorder for the RBs to find running lanes. Also you guys who are being so negative, remember the Jags rested all their starting linebackers. Instead trying to highlight every negative try supporting the team and going to the games. Theres enough negativity comming from the outside already.
