Title: Laura St. Blue Boy Sandwich Shop CLOSED
Post by: videojon on August 19, 2009, 10:59:37 AM
Sorry if this has already been reported, but for those who grab breakfast or lunch at Blue Boy Sandwich Shop on Laura St., I confirmed that they have closed down for good. They were on vacation last week.

For me personally, not a big loss. I ate there before and it was just meh. I think their closing is not just a sign of the recession but also a change in tastes of those who work downtown.

I agree. A couple of friends really like the place but I only cared for the breakfast items.

I've had some of the breakfast items as well.  Not bad.

BTW, welcome VideoJon.

When the recession does. I, like many who work downtown I'm sure, bag my lunch or skip it altogether much more frequently than I did a year ago. Good for my wallet, bad for downtown eateries. All that construction that was around them probably didn't help.

It's funny you mention construction. In Blue Boy's case, they seemed to get the most business recently during the construction of the new City Hall Annex next door. Now that the construction workers are gone, the business seemed to decrease.

Bingo. The blue collar workers loved it, the white collar workers not so much so. This is exactly the change in tastes that I was thinking of. My thoughts are the good-old boys are being replaced with metrosexuals.

Their breakfast menu was pretty good, the bacon egg & cheese wrap was HUGE. I ate there often when I worked at JEA downtown and yes, it was always full of construction workers.

Their sandwiches for lunch weren't exactly tasty, but they did give you a good size portion. it was like a loaf of bread with meat in the middle.

There's still a few around if you ever start craving their BLT'S again... one on the Northside off Norwood and another in Arlington off Ft. Caroline rd.

I hadn't been there in a few years, did they ever get the ability to grill there? For me, the best thing about Blue Boy are the hot sandwiches, the steak and chicken ones from the other locations are beyond amazing. I used to grab a cuban on the way home from work when I was at FBC and it wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't the #8 with extra onions.

I was first introduced to Blue Boys by an ex-girlfriend who lived on the Northside. First time she took me to the one on Norwood I could not believe the size of the sandwich. Had to wrap it up and take half of it home..it was soooooo good..
