Title: Where are the Soccer bars in Jax area?
Post by: cdb on August 14, 2009, 12:59:37 PM
Where can I go to catch the rest of the WC qualifying games with other local soccer fans? Or even pop in on a weekend and watch some European League games?

Also if you are a soccer hater, I don't want to hear it. Go somewhere else with the ignorance.

I don't think I've ever seen soccer played in a bar in Jacksonville, unless it's the World Cup

Many of times when I have been at O'Brothers in Five Points they are showing soccer. I also have seen it on the TVs at the bars in La Nop. I am not sure what leagues they show though.

Yes I have seen it on at La Nop, it is usually Mexican league action. Thanks for the heads up on O'Brothers, I will check it out.

If there is absolutely NOTHING else on tv, they show it at hooters at the Landing.  I mean NOTHING else.

Either a pub for European League or Mexican restaurant for Spanish television soccer...those are the best bets if it is not World Cup.

Culhanes Irish Pub (Atlantic Beach) shows Premier Legaue (England) and some other European games.

However, seeing how Setanta Sports (only avail. on satellite) lost their chokehold on Premier and Champions Leagues (interEurope) this year, I would highly advise adding Fox Soccer if you have cable. It's $5 per month for that and GoalTV, which works out to significantly less than watching the game at a pub and enjoying a couple of rounds. Fox also shows some La Ligua, Bundesliga, and other assorted games.

Also, ESPN has inherited a good number of Premier League and Champions League games out of Setanta's misfortune.

One word of warning: Fox Soccer is not available in HD. The ESPN games, however, are HD broadcast.

Some great fixtures are coming up on the 12th and the "Big Four" have a decent chance of being cracked this year, which makes this Premiership season a no miss in my book!

...there's also MLS on Fox Soccer.

Not that it matters unless it's a World Cup Qualifier or National team game. ;)

JAX needs more footie fans.
