Title: Fantasy Football
Post by: BridgeTroll on August 05, 2009, 01:47:57 PM
The season is almost upon us... Thank god!  Any of our metrojax folks play fantasy football?  I have played Yahoo and ESPNs games before and have enjoyed it.  I dont really have time to participate in full blown drafts or administer a league... I usually let the computer pick from my list of prefered players etc.

Any interest?

I played for the first time last season. I am not hardcore, but it makes games you wouldn't normally care about interesting. If someone starts something up, I would be interested.

I would opt for the Yahoo league default and have the auto pick draft... it is very easy and NOT hardcore.

This was brought up last year, but didn't go anywhere.

Does anyone have any interest in a Metrojacksonville fantasy football league. I will start up a league and send out the invites if there are enough interested people.

I'm hardcore.  I've been playing for money for over a decade now.

I'll play if theres room.. I'm in a $200 league now, but this one would be fun too!

What's at stake? Bragging rights?

Let me know!

My best friend (an occasional MetroJacksonville lurker, also here in Va) and I have started up a league and are looking for more players.  It's a Yahoo league with the autopick draft, so all you'd need to join is a Yahoo account.  We don't play for money.  If everyone would just like to join that you're more than welcome to do so.  Please send me an e-mail or a message at my Facebook page if you're interested.  I'd be glad to be in contact with everyone from MJ as Facebook friends anyway.  Hopefully this works for taking you to my Facebook profile: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/profile.php?id=1220606673.  If not, my not very secret identity is David Damiani and my Jacksonville affiliations are obvious from the profile picture.

I haven't played in a few years but would like to join if possible.

My good friend runs ff for ESPN up in CT and could give us a full access league for free if that's the route everyone wants to go...

How many more people do you need Wacca?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Wacca Pilatka on August 17, 2010, 04:55:29 PM
We have 8, but 3 or 4 of them are not particularly involved players (e.g., two of my buddy's daughters and one friend who often forgets to update rosters), so it'd be nice to have a few more so we can have more competition and also be able to have a weekly head-to-head system rather than a year-long highest score system.

Well I am in two leagues and want to do three. So if there aren't enough people from Metrojacksonville to create a league, I will join to help fill out your league.

Do we want to do an actual scheduled draft or just let the computer pick them out so we don't have to spend the 4 hours drafting?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: thelakelander on August 17, 2010, 08:48:53 PM
I can go either route.  I'm already in a money league that will be having a live draft in a few weeks.  I haven't played in a computer selected draft in years but that may level the playing field for those who don't have as much experience in this as others.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: tufsu1 on August 17, 2010, 09:17:14 PM
I've done a live draft using Yahoo the past few years...it takes less than 2 hours with 10 teams.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: stephenc on August 17, 2010, 09:20:05 PM
either is fine with me. a live draft isnt that long if you shorten the time per pick. but in auto-pick would even the playing field.

If you are on this list and are not interested let me know. I think 12 would be the max we could do. Once we have a full league. We can vote on how to do the draft, live or auto.

I enjoy the game... it makes Sunday that much more enjoyable.  I have only played on casual leagues where I rank my players pre draft and the let the computer make the picks.  After the picks are made I sharpen the roster with undrafted and waiver players...

That said... I am game for a casual league as described above.... Yahoo etc... :)

Sign up bucket, if there is room.

Years ago I was in a fairly hardcore money  league but lost interest after a few seasons. Too much like work.

I like the more nonchalant leagues. Just update the roster and try to keep your roster manned if injury occurs.

If I gotta study to watch football... I'm taking it way to seriously.

I'm good for the 29th....if you decide to expand the league to 14 teams (usually the max. that can be done), then "cline" would also be interested in participating.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football

Not to exclude anyone but... after 12 teams it's almost impossible to make moves.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 18, 2010, 11:29:08 AM
I have never done 14. Does anyone else have insight on how difficult is to make moves. I know with baseball, a 14 team usually takes more skill since you have to dive deeper into the pool for players. If this is to be more casual 14 might be to many.

It does matter how many players are competing, due to limited talent, but the way to counteract that is to limit the bench spots.

Example: 12 team league with 8 bench spots - 204 total positions to fill for the league, 14 team leauge with 5 bench spots - 196 total positions to fill for the league.

Basically you can add 1 team per bench spot and keep everything fair and competitve.

Non-Redneck Westsider,

If this league stays at 12, I'll drop out and you can take my spot.

And regardless of whether the league stays at 12, you are welcome to join my and my buddy's other league--contact info on the first page of this thread.

OK well I will set it up like that then Non-Redneck Westsider.

Well that makes 14 and our final count unless someone drops.

I will setup the league tonight on Yahoo with 14 teams, and 5 bench spots per team. The draft will be for the 29th at 7:00 PM. If someone cant make it, then they will just need to make sure they have their players ranked for the computer to draft.

The league has been setup. I am direct messaging all the people playing with the link to join and create your team. Let me know if there are any problems.

I have sent the link to everyone. I did it individually, so if you are on list and didn't get it let me know. I could have screwed it up.

Little problem with the draft time. The best time I can get for Sunday the 29th is 5:45. We could probably do it the following Sunday at 7. Let me know what everyone thinks.

The BeeTees have reported for camp... ::) :D

Since I may not be able to live draft I am setting up my auto draft.  Question...

In the auto draft does the sytem draft according to position?  meaning... first pick is my highest rank QB... next pick is highest RB... next is highest WR?

Or

if my ranking is 1-14 QB's...15-28 RB's... will the program pick 2 QBs the first two rounds... then 2 RBs the next?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: buckethead on August 19, 2010, 07:33:39 AM
The former. I see no way of altering that format.

I altered the rankings somewhat, for a draft last year and ended up with a lousy team. I am going to try to make the live draft. I have no schedule conflicts, so it just depends upon my Dear Leader.  :)
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: BridgeTroll on August 19, 2010, 07:41:16 AM
So the draft order will be... QB, WR, RB, TE, K, DEF?  Everyone drafts a QB... next round we draft WR... next RB... etc?

Just trying to be clear because I have not seen anything on Yahoo...

The times I could select were 5:45 or before, or 10:00 and after. I guess that is a popular night for drafting, and their system can only handle so many. I plan on leaving it at the 5:45 time it is now.

Bridgetroll...

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sports/fantasysports/football/drafts/football-116.html

"When utilizing the autopick system, our computer system will make intelligent choices for you. This will happen if you signed up for an Autopick Draft or are not present for all or part of your Live Draft.

The autopick system looks at both a player's position and ranking before making a selection. The computer looks to see which starting positions you need to fill, then selects the highest-rated playerâ€"based on either our default ranking or your own custom player rankingâ€"to fill one of those positions.

It is not possible to set a specific number of players to receive for each position, or to set which position will be selected in each round."

If you don't know how to set it up, I would leave the Yahoo Rankings as is.  No system takes into account the player's position, only thier ranking.  FYI - be sure to remove your kickers from the rankings list, and only leave the defenses in that you want.  ;)
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: buckethead on August 19, 2010, 08:56:26 AM
According to Lucas, this systems considers position. I must assume it does so by seeing which positions are filled. I can see how it could be done if I were to use MS Excel. If pick one and two were RBs and my highest ranked player remaining on the board was also an RB during my 3rd pick, default to the next highest ranked player that is not an RB.

Title: Re: Fantasy Football

The way I understand it is that
1 - It will look at your open positions and look at player rankings
2 - Where ever you have the highest ranked player for an open position, that is who it will talke.

Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 19, 2010, 09:32:55 AM
This is also from Yahoo...

"Unfortunately, it isn't possible to designate which positions are drafted in which rounds in an autopick draft.

For example, it isn't possible to tell our autopick system to draft a running back in the first two rounds, a quarterback in the third round and a wide receiver in the fourth round.

Each round, the autopick system selects your highest-ranked available player, assuming there's an open starting roster position for that player."

I found this...

QuoteHow is the draft order determined?

Draft order for Public Leagues is determined randomly approximately 30 to 60 minutes prior to the beginning of the draft.

Commissioners of Custom Leagues can specify the order of the draft in their league by:

•Clicking the "Commissioner Tools" link on the league home page.
OR

•Choosing the "Edit Draft Order" tool.
If a Custom League Commissioner has customized the draft order, the order reverts to the default draft order if a team enters or exits the league.

The draft order in Custom Leagues cannot be randomized by the commissioner. If no customization is done, Yahoo! Sports randomizes the draft order 30 to 60 minutes prior to the draft.

For either type of league, the draft order wraps around (i.e., if you have the first pick in the first round, you have the last pick in the second round, first pick in the third round, and so on). You can click the "Draft Results" link from your league home page to view the draft order of your league.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 19, 2010, 10:04:30 AM
That is referring to the drafting order for each team. The way the league is setup it will be random, and then will follow a snaking order, which is the wrapping it describes above. So if you get the 14th pick in round 1, you get the 15th pick in round 2. This doesn't have anything to do with the players drafted for your team though, just when in each round you will get to pick.

Satisfied with your draft?  I had a problem logging in... I had been in for a few hours and participated in a couple mock drafts to test things out... all worked well... until the live draft.  Somehow I didn't get in until after my first pick was made automatically.  Needless to say my intent was to pick someone else ::).  Made another mistake later on... was queueing up my picks and had one guy highlighted while I meant to draft another... I guess it all worked out... Ya never know until the season starts and guys get hurt or someone nobody has heard of becomes a star...

Good luck! :)

I didn't have any problems with the draft last night, but I did have some issues like that when doing the mock drafts. A lot of times I would have to close the app that launched and reload it into my browser. It didn't display as well like that, but it worked.

I reached on Spiller, but other than that I was happy.

I think Lake needs to create his slogan on the league to reflect his opinion on taking Roethlisberger.

Satisfied with your draft?

I did what I could do with a middle pick.  I find those most difficult to game plan for because you don't have the advantage of picking twice with a few slots of each other.  So I typically prefer being in the top or bottom three selection spots.  Anyway, I'm satisfied at this point.  I didn't get Ricky Williams to back up Ronnie Brown's wobbly knees and that will bit me at some point since Brown has never played a full season.  However, I believe the rapist will bring me good things come week five or six. Either as a replacement at QB or trade bait to upgrade my RB position.  My season strategy boils down to doing just enough to get into the playoffs and swinging a few trades along the way to upgrade my weaknesses for a strong run to the finish line.  Oh yeah....I'm a trash talker, so don't take things too personal when the season gets underway.

I really hate Roethlisberger. I have his jersey and even a Christmas ornament of him, but he can never be anymore than just "the rapist" now.

I really think your team slogan should be "The Ebony Stub's will always have room for a rapist."

Seriously though... Rapelesburger is meeting with Goodell soon and I bet his suspension is shortened to week 3.

It was all he said, she said.

He said "Here... take this."

She said "That's a swell offer but I think I should decline."

He said "Oh... but I insist."

She said "Thank you but no, thank you.

He said "$^%*&Ã¥Æ'¶¢£"

She said "Ouch... I am not sure that meets everyday standards of etiquette."

I might have lucked into a win. I forgot to set my lineup. (I thought I had done it)

Two guys would have been in differently for a net gain of about 8 points.

It seems my opponent (Wacca) was sleeping at the wheel.

I missed the draft and I have no number one runningbacks, but Ahmad Bradshaw did pretty well for me.

The Riots squeak out another win! 3-0!!

I felt like I let my team down though by starting Ryan Mathews when he was obviously out for week 3. I was out of town all last week and lost my focus. So after the game last night I had a talk with all my little fantasy player avatars. I vowed to be the leader they deserve and not an absentee father.

I hope my message was heard loud & clear and confidence has been restored because we've got a big week coming up with the Studs... Riots on 3!! 1-2-3 RIOTS!!!

Looks like my late selection of LT paid off.  Culter completely flopping last night helped out as well.  That was one of the worst QB games I've ever seen in fantasy football.  It would have been a lot worse if points were subtracted for sacks, as they are in my other league.  Anyway, I'm down by one heading into tonight's game.  However, I believe a combination of Ronnie Brown and Wes Welker against Davon Bess will more than even out the difference.

I was very suprised of how our matchup shook out BT. I was completely backwards in my predictions this week. In the three leagues I am in I figured this as a loss and the other two as wins, but it was the opposite.

I am really happy though to get through the byes for my #1 RB and QB without a loss.

Post by: thelakelander on October 05, 2010, 09:55:53 AM
Completely unbelievable.  In a matter of two minutes right after halftime, the Dolphins falling apart on special teams took the need of running Ronnie Brown and throwing to Wes Welker right out of the game.  I thought the only way Bess would come out on top was if Brown got caught with a 12 year old stripper right before the game.  Well an NFL team allowing a kickoff return, an INT TD return, a blocked punt in its redzone and a blocked FG TD return......IN ONE HALF...is right up there with that assessment.  Oh well, Team Stud is now 2-2 with our favorite rapist and Santonio Holmes coming back off their 4-game suspensions.

Lucas, Yahoo will let you keep all of the settings, names, etc...  And when next year starts, you can basically hit 4 buttons and have the league up and running with invites sent out to all the players from this year.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on July 27, 2011, 12:25:48 PM
Now that we have real football started back up, it is time to get the fantasy version going. I have renewed the league from last year and sent out invites to the previous year managers.

If you do not want to do it again, or you didn't really keep up with it all season last year (I don't think anyone actually did that), let me know so I can put it out there for others to join.

If everyone is in again, and there are others that want to get in on this, we may need to institute a policy of kicking out the bottom 4 or whatever each year to allow others to cycle in.

Right now the draft is set for August 28th at 7:00 PM, but that can be adjusted. I will post some more info under the league page regarding any changes in settings.

Your Roethlisberger lines will never get old.

Rashean the Fish will be gladly swimming back into action after recovering from last year's unspeakably awful start with a bright finish.  If NFL Films did a half-hour review of my season, it would focus entirely on the second half and the hope it brought for the future.

I have five teams still unclaimed. Three of the people (Lake, Steve, Wacca) have confirmed they are coming back this year, so I am not worried about them. I am still waiting to hear from Shwaz and Smoody84. Please let me know if you are playing or not by the 19th, this way we can fill your spots if you are not coming back. If I don't hear anything by that point, I am going to move on and invite people in to replace your spots.

As of right now the list to fill any potentail spots is manasia and then AFCassidy.

Shwaz has informed me that he will not be playing this year. Manasia was first in line as a reserve so he has taken over his spot. As of right now the league is filled up. Sorry to anyone else who was looking to get in. I am still waiting for one person to reclaim their team, but he has assured me he will do it before my imposed deadline.

Here is the cross reference for everyone, which I will also post on Yahoo.

1 - Lucasjj - Post St Playmakers
2 - Lakelander - The Ebony Stud
3 - SMoody84 - Urine Danger
4 - Wacca Palatka - Rashean The Fish
5 - manasia - Addison's Ahirman's
6 - tufsu1 - Jack B More
7 - stephenc - Quahog Clams
8 - Steve - Crongrotastic
9 - riverside_mail - Massillon Tigers
10 - BridgeTroll - BeesTees
11 - Fieldafm - Drewvall
12 - danno - Johnsonville Untied
13 - Non-Redneck Westsider - Best In The West
14 - cline - Steadman

If you have not done so already, please vote on the poll listed under  the "Should They Stay Or Should They Go" thread. Also please make any suggestions about rules, scoring, ect before the draft so that we can possibly make changes.

I haven't had any replies about the draft time, so as of now it is scheduled for Sunday August 28th at 7:00 PM EDT. If that time does not work for you, please make a suggestion. We will schedule a time that works for most, and others will have to auto-draft.

ok...I saw lucas and field this morning....we discussed the possibility of getting together for the draft.

So....if folks are game, we can meet up at the Landing Hooters next Sunday evening...I checked with them and they'll provide us a draft kit, wi-fi, and power strips for those with weak laptop batteries.

We'll still do the draft online, so if you can't make it, no big deal....but if you want to meet other league members (and MJ posters) we can meet up at Hooters around 6pm on 8/28.

Hey all,

We're about to get hit with a hurricane here in Virginia, so if I don't participate in the fantasy draft on Sunday, it'll be because our power's out.  Does the system just auto-draft for me if I can't make it or will you do things like make Tiquan Underwood my first round pick?   :)  Thanks for your understanding
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 25, 2011, 04:23:13 PM
It will auto draft and take the best player available at a needed poistion until your starting line up is made and then it will fill your bench with the top player available each time. However as comissioner I may be able to adjust your roster to get underwood as your first pick for you. :-)
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 26, 2011, 10:04:47 AM
Just a few reminders.

The draft is this Sunday (August 28) at 7:00 PM EDT. If you are not able to draft then your team will be auto drafted by Yahoo whether you sign in or not. You can adjust the rankings of players prior to the draft to customize it to your preference.

For those who would like to draft with other members of the league and have an excuse to drink, we will be meeting at Hooters at the Landing around 6 o'clock for a draft party. You need to have a laptop to draft. Otherwise you will just drink with us while your team is autodrafted.

I would also like everyone who has not done so already to complete the poll listed under the "Should They Stay or Should They Go" thread. Eight people have responded so I know at least 6 of you still have not. I am going to close out the poll by the draft time.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: BridgeTroll on August 26, 2011, 10:51:09 AM
I will likely be autodrafting... not sure if I can make it to Hooters...  Where is the poll?  Is it on the Yahoo site?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 26, 2011, 10:55:49 AM
Yahoo doesn't have the ability to do polls, so I have it hosted on another site. To get there click on the thread titled "Should They Stay or Should They Go" on our Yahoo league page which explains the poll, and there is a link to a site that is hosting the actual poll.

Thanks to those who participated in the draft tonight, either at Hooters or on-line. It was a fun time with many surprises. For instance Lake only took one criminal, Mark Brunell isn't dead and was some how drafted, and Tim Tebow can not only ride the bench in Denver but also on Riverside Mail's team.

For those who didn't draft live, I closed the poll at the beginning of the draft and the results are that no one will removed at the end of the year based on rankings. Steve is very thankful for this.

On top of being awesome hosts for the live draft, Hooters provided us a draft kit for the evening. With it came some coupons for future group events during the season. Tufsu1 has these and so we decided we will try and plan some league parties for some of the Jag away games.

Remember this is just the beginning of a long season in which you will all again lose to me. So make trades, watch the waiver wire, and more importantly lose to me.

Thanks for asking.  Yes, I'm fine.  I stayed at my best buddy's house and to my surprise, neither he nor I lost power (though he doesn't have a working internet connection right now and has three children who needed entertaining, hence my missing the draft).  No damage to my house or his.  Oddly, a lot more damage 20 miles to the west in Williamsburg, where I work.  No power in my office this morning.

QuoteI am cuatiously optimistic about my chances of a reapeat this season.

Being cautious is for crossing guards, dynamite transporters and girls with roofie addictions.

I'm throwing caution to the wind, baby.  Read my Text, "THERE WILL BE NO REPEAT THIS YEAR!!" (unless you mean Lucas tanking in the playoffs AGAIN)

I hate to tell you guys that do-gooderly, cautiously optimistically, fence-up-your-rectum-because-you-can't-choose-a-player teams will not win, hell, they won't even be in the discussion come week 10.

They're the guys who are too cheap to kick the IT guy a $50 to unlock all the Roto sites at their work computer, keeping the droid in their pockets while they're in church and allowing the wife to have her 'Family Time' when you should be checking your line-up and scouring the waiver wire.

I'll be setting the alarm at 3am to sneak in and claim all the good players;  Fuck work, I give them the other 8 months out of the year;  I left my family a note and 4 checks - one for each month that daddy won't be around - and have secluded myself in all that is NFL.

Roger Goodell pajamas - check.  He will start getting e-mails and video clips from me about how all of your RBs keep lowering their heads into defensless defenders.  Suspended.

Aaron Rodgers magazine - check.  I'll be giving GQ the dl on everything Aaron Rodgers.  They'll be following him around incessantly with white linen pants and V-neck sweater vests until he can't think straight.  (Pun very much intended - especially for those of you who think Sanchez is straight)

Indianapolis Colts neck warmer - check.  Oops.  Let's peruse the Colts draft picks this year:  My Man Peyton in the 2nd (it'll be ok Steve), then we have Reggie 'I-want-Painter' Wayne (I'm sure Lance Moore will get the majority of the catches against the other 42 receivers that Brees is more than happy to throw to).  Next up:  Dallas Clark.  C'mon, like you really wanted a white guy on your team anyhow.

Oh shit, the boss has been standing over my shoulder for the last 10 minutes.  I guess I'll be setting his line-up tonight, too.

^^Watch 'The League', some of the funniest TV for this time of year.

Quite a marvelous rant. A lot of talk, obviously trying to calm your fears before your week one match up. I am not sure how much of that you stole or how much was original thought, but I can tell you that the only thing you said that is even worth listening to is your plug to watch The League.

Other than that I think you should settle down before we have to get hold of your wife and have her take you back home again.  ;D

If you want to loan me some points, I will pay you back with interest. The way the Colts are scoring, Reggie Wayne may not even get me enough points to break 70 this week. Me and Massillion really brought down the curve this week, although he still has Blount to play.

I've channeled my inner Matt Millen for the past two weeks and now I'm complementing that with my inner JDR.  Assuming the trade goes through, I have successfully traded away my best reciever for a (to this point) bust of a RB and now am cutting loose my starting QB (who is 4-0 btw) to go with the rookie and a half-pint on the Saints.  Oh yeah, CJ's in there as well, but he isn't even worthy of carrrying Fred Jackson's jock strap to this point.

Let's go to the tape - (http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQc_hqYN6SYs_159CzTxiGkFKm5zTocsRcuDLwGqBg_zIMDWzfN_aKFd23Fcw)

I have essentially traded away two first round picks and a 10th for (2) Undrafted players and am now putting the burden on my Rookie QB.  SMH.

-<angst ridden tirade>-  The only positive about the whole fucking quarter of a season is that I seem to bring out the best in you momma's boys guys.  SCOREBOARD Strength of Schedule, Bitches.  Glad I can be your fucking whipping boy. ::) ::)

Speak for yourself.  I'm doing just fine in my other league (the one that impacts my pockets).  I blame my poor start on a combination of being in the middle of the drafting rounds (hard to follow out a drafting strategy) and swinging and missing on both of my RB selections.

Alright.  Found some success on the first week of radically changing my lineup.  The trade for Detroit's Best looks to be a significant improvement over pretty boy Reggie Bush, who's still having his Kardashian hangover.  Hello, Reggie, Ray J's girl is gone.....get over it and get your head in the game son.

Also, I can't believe someone cut Aaron Hernandez and Victor Cruz were still available on the waiver wire this past week.  Neither were in my starting lineup but now they will be.  Now we have one out of three planners who's not hovering in the gutter of this fantasy football league.  We're getting into bye time, so I'll be waiting for a few suckers to let some good talent go when they come to the realization they drafted without thinking about bye weeks.  Looking forward to giving Jack B. More another loss this week.

I got married Saturday and am leaving for my honeymoon tomorrow, so I haven't paid any attention to my team this week. I am not sure what kind of internet access I will have so whoever has me for the next two match ups may be getting a gift. That is if my team didn't suck like the last two weeks.

Anyways if there are any league issues, to damn bad because I will be in the Mediterranean and honestly won't care.

BTW I am the idiot who dropped Hernandez because I didn't want to drop one of my several mediocre running backs when he got injured. I am hoping i can get my head back into the league after I am back and roar to life in the second half.

Jack B. more originally drafted Sam Bradford...then dropped him for Hasselback without looking at the bye weeks....plus Bradford should be back up to ok now that his supporting cast is healthier.

I do not know of this fantasty football that you speak of, but I am sure it is impressive. With Addison sure to be upset, the reigning champ will be the highest seed remaing.

I know some of you are still playing for this season, but please look over the post I put up regarding league changes for next year.I haven't gotten any feedback, but the main thing is the keeper selection for next year.

Fine.  If you can gloat, then I can be a whiny, sore loser.

WTF!!!!  How can you score the second highest point total in the entire 14 team league and not make the playoffs?  It's a sham.  It's a travesty.  It's obvious that the whole thing was a set up from the beginning.  You suburbia hacks should be ashamed of yourselves for even being in the position that you all are in right now.

Really?!?!

Let's go to the tale of the tape:  Only 3 teams scored as many points as last place in the Urban League.  Thanks to Field lobbying to get a spot and then not playing his team, you were down another competitor that you each played twice this season, the fantasy version of the Colts.  Only one of you faced a schedule as hard as ours in the Urban Core.

Enjoy your cardboard trophy and your hollow win.  It means nothing.

To be the best, you have to beat the best, unless your team was in the Suburbia division.

;D ;D ;D ;D 8)

Edit:  Yes.  The changes are welcomed.  Now, the next step, as alluded above, will be to mix in some Suburbian Christians to the Urban Lion's Pit.   8)

Suburbia - Points Scored = 9,743.93    Points Against = 9,734.24

The Urban Core was obviosuly the better division.  :) :)

I lost this week but at least my middle of the road team made the playoffs.  The crazy thing is my sorry team led the suburbia division in total points but if it were in the other division, it would have been the 6th place team.  Anyway, my money league team put up 157 points yesterday.  My opponent will need a big night to catch me, although its not impossible.

Another season of Metrojacksonville Fantasy Football is in the books and for a second straight year Danno has reigned victorious. Congratulations, your fantasy skill obviously far outshines the rest of of us.

It was another fun year. Please make sure to review the final Commissioner's Note or the "New League Bylaws" post regarding the keeper rules going into effect as well as the scoring changes. I'll let you know my keeper in a few. It will either be MJD (First Round) or Rob Gronkowski (Ninth Round). Looking at the numbers, Gronkowski actually put up more points, but I think he might be Brady's flavor of the year.

If I never get back to you, assume MJD - despite losing a First round pick, he'd definitely be worth a first round pick next year.

I am unfamiliar with this format.  Does this mean I have the 7th pick in the first round next year and Aaron Rodgers is my pick then I continue on with my picks as usual?

Yes.

It also means that with the first overall pick in next years draft will be...... Ray Rice.

And when you set up your autodraft, remember to exclude these guys from your list.

The invites for the 3rd Annual MetroJacksonville Fantasy Football League have been sent out (Except for Danno's because he obviously cheats  ;) ). If it doesn't hit your inbox or spam, message me with your email and I will try and see what went wrong.

As of now the draft is set for Sunday August 26th at 4:00 PM. All returning managers need to have reclaimed their team by August 5th.

Once you have reclaimed your team you will need to confirm your keeper. This will be the person you chose to keep earlier this offseason. I have the keeper list and finalize the selection, so please do not try and make any changes.
As of right now there is one spot available. If any other managers choose not to come back this year, their spot will also become available. If you would like to play, please post in this thread. I will throw all the names in a hat and make a random selection on August 6. Please don't ask to play if you will not be committed all year regardless of how your team is performing.

There have been some changes to the league settings. I have listed them in a post on the league page, if you have any comments or suggestions please make them there.

**SMoody84 & Stephenc â€" Check the direct message I sent you.**

-Bridge Troll, Manasia, TheLakeLander, & Steve

We have one spot still to fill. If you would like to play, please post in this thread. I will throw all the names in a hat and make a random selection on August 6. Please don't ask to play if you will not be committed all year regardless of how your team is performing.

Steve has yet to sign up, but he said that he is playing this year. Since he has been traveling for his job recently, I am giving him another week to sign up. There were only two people, Jason and Nemo, that showed interest in filling any empty spots. I put their names in a mini Steeler helmet I have on my desk and drew out Jason's name. Jason please DM me an email address to send the invite to.

Nemo, if Steve doesn't sign up, I will contact you to take his place.

Steve signed up last night so the league has been filled and the teams are locked. I set the draft order and assigned each team's keeper to their pick, so you can ignore any message or deadline about selecting your keeper.

As of now the draft is set for 4:00 PM on Sunday August 26th. If you cannot make it, then the computer will autodraft for you. If people have a suggestion for another time, voice it here so we can work something out.

Lucas, before the draft, do we have to do something to the settings to make sure that everyone who was retained under the "keeper" option doesn't enter the draft?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on August 07, 2012, 12:56:47 PM
No, no one has to do anything. I went through this morning and set the draft order and put all of the keepers in for each team in the round they are valued at. So for instance in your case, Laurent Robinson will not show as an available player, but when it comes to your pick in round 14 it will automatically draft Laurent Robinson for you.

So not only will people who are live drafting need to know who was taken as keepers for strategic reasons, but also your picks are going to come up quicker in certain rounds since you will not be waiting for a person to think through their pick and use the allotted time.

I will let my three and one life time record against you speak for me. Even with the terrible season I had last year (which was derailed due to my October wedding and honeymoon) I still managed to beat you week one with my highest point total for the season. It was almost enough to make the whole season still a success.

So long as you bring it back to it's rightful owner - ME - by the end of the season, have at it.

We don't want to speculate what Danno's been doing to it for the past two years, though.

Acutally, all snark aside, I think a trophy would be an awesome idea.  Let it travel for the year like the Stanley Cup... set up it's own thread to post pictures of 'what the cup is up to'....

I'd be willing to throw in $20/$30 to make this happen.  Anyone else?

I just ordered the one below for my other league. It is a perpetual trophy that will last 18 years. With engraving and shipping it comes out to $8.50 a person for a 14 team league.

To get a new plate each year, it is only $8 with engraving and shipping.

I think the winner can fork over the $10 to have their name engraved for the life of the trophy - it's not too much to ask.

In your case Wacca (assuming you don't roll over and play dead in the Championship Match - AGAIN), you'll have plenty of chances to pick up the trophy during one of your 2-3 trips down in January for the AFC playoffs.

He should have been.  I thought that all players went on waivers right before the start of the first game of the week?

If not, that's awesome because it means we can still make moves friday and saturday.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on September 06, 2012, 09:44:37 AM
Here is how this apparently works. Yahoo's default waiver setting is Sunday through Tuesday. So all players go on waivers at 1:00 PM on Sunday and remain there until 3:00 AM Wednesday. This is the setting we have been using for previous years.

The other options are:
-Waivers start with the first game of the week and go until 3:00 AM Wednesday.
-Players go on waivers when their game starts and that goes until 3:00 AM Wednesday. Any player on a bye goes on waivers at 8:30 PM Monday until 3:00 AM Wednesday.

We can keep things as is, or this can be changed now, or for next season, whatever the consensus is.

Nah, leave it as is.

I don't like changing anyting once the season starts, and honestly, I don't think that it matters - especially if that's the way it's been.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football
Post by: Lucasjj on September 06, 2012, 10:01:03 AM
If we did make a change, i would be in favor of putting players on bye when they play. This will avoid the situation last night where I was first to pick him up since he would have been on waivers. It also would still allow for last minute pickups on Saturday and Sunday if a team needed a fill in.

I don't like changing things in year either, unless it is a "fatal" mistake for the league season. I think it is definitely something to look at for next year.

The gauntlet is at your feet, sir.  The bet - $20 tab at Dahlia's - if you're man enough to accept.

It has to be based more than just this week. My QB is on a bye this weekand I have Matt Cassell going for me.

We face off again in week 8. We can bet on the two games combined, and if we split, than total points will be the tiebreaker, or we can bet final standings.

Alright!

We'll go with a combined score for the two weeks - I can't wait until the end of the year - delayed gratification isn't really my thing.   ;D  [insert 'That's what she said' comment]

Allright combined points for week 4 and 8 is the bet.

The only downside of this, since I will surely win, is that to reap my winnings will mean I will have to sit with you while having a drink.

Don't fret, because even though you'll be losing the match, you're still #winning.

How you ask?

Beer 1
I'll gladly speak of the joys of being in the lead through week 8 and won't hesitate giving you some much needed insight as to how you still may have an opportunity to join me in the playoffs.
Beer 2
I'll try not to dwell on how horrid your team actually is, but will attempt to keep it positive as to how much room your team actually has for improvement.
Beer 3
By this point, the 9+ ABVs should start to kick in and I'll slide right into a mocking, passive aggressive attack on how bad your team really is, and all the different moves you should be making, the trades that you should have made and (towards the end) draft theory for next year - by now I'll be convinced that your pathetic team only has one option going for it, next year.
Beer 4
This is the self-realization beer when I start getting sentimental and blathering on about how lonely it is at the top, reminiscing of the first draft day at Hooters, and slowly coming to the realization that the season is already half over and how time just passes us by.
Beer 5
We're no longer on your tab - if you happen to glance over your shoulder as you run to the door, the last image you'll probably see is Andrea glaring at you for getting me started and then bailing - thus making me her problem.

Ahhh, I can picture this like it already happened.  Can't wait.   ;D

Congratulations to the 8 playoff teams.

I take solace in having outscored two of them despite my 3-10 record.  That is all my season highlight video will point out.

What's the status on collecting $ toward a trophy?

Or you could be like me, outscoring your entire division and still missing the playoffs!

Montell Owens will carry the load this week.  If you need a RB or Flex.  He can help.

shocking that NRW lost so bad this week...he'd been killing it all season.

and of course my team decided to score big this week now that it doesn't matter....all I needed last week was 1 TD pass from Schaub...but no, he threw a pick in the end zone on one drive and threw a pass to the 1 yard line (run in) on another...ugh!
