I went to drop a cat off for the Trap Neuter and Release program yesterday and found that the Animal Control and Care center had moved from near the dog track on McDuff to off of Forest near Riverside area, the new building is pretty cool and it looks like there having an open house Saturday http://www.coj.net/NR/rdonlyres/et2enm4l2nme4eozzteeqhtsm3mw7ibzkdlfvc7avdrz6aztihhss2ep5igeaarnwlwjhb36nxcut5dckkc6ywekgoe/acc+spot+2009.pdf
BTW the trap neuter and release program is great if you have stray cats roaming around, catching them can be a little tricky sometimes.
The new Center is really neat looking. Hope it functions a good as it looks. The architect got a lot of interesting look without resorting to expensive ornamentation like columns.
The Center was delayed in construction when they found that the ground under the buildings that were torn down to make room for it was one of the old ash sites and had been contaminated by the later occupants too. They had to remove and replace a huge amount of dirt.
It's going to be a great, convenient location too when the construction of the new I-95/I-10 intersection is completed.
Hey! Sometimes the City does things right.
They are having a Grand Opening Saturday from 9am till 2pm..and its not Animal Care & Control any longer. Its Animal Care & Protective Services..Has a nicer sounding ring to it doesn't it?
I heard it was going to be a no kill shelter. Does anyone know if this is true? What about the other animal care and controls in jax? will they be no kill as well?
No it will not be a no kill shelter. The Jacksonville Humane Society is however a no kill shelter.
Unfortunately, there are many reasons that Animal Control must euthanize animals; injury, disease, aggression. The main reason it is necessary is that irresponsible people won't get their animals spayed and neutered.
