Title: The Jaguars Upcoming Season
Post by: A-Finnius on July 26, 2009, 11:44:29 PM
I was visiting with one of my good friends this weekend and of course the upcoming football season became the topic of discussion.  We both felt that the Jaguars are posed to have a much better season than what most people are expecting this year.

We both agreed that they had a very good draft and the addition of Torry Holt will bring stability and leadership to the young group of receivers.  The Jags also did a good job of cleaning up the locker room which seemed to have a lot of negativity surrounding it last season.  The loss of Fred Taylor might hurt us and the schedule is difficult but I'm still feeling optimistic.  I think if the offensive line can stay healthy, if Mojo can carry the load of being a featured back and if the defense can return to being a feared unit then we might be looking at a 10-6 or an 11-5 season again.

Is anyone else feeling optimistic or am I in the minority here?

I'm trying to be cautious with my optimism, but I am very excited about the draft and the team's focus on character.  The o-line ought to be healthier by default and the depth is much better there this year too.  10-6 or 11-5 certainly is possible.

Here are my predictions from another thread...

QuoteMan, talk about pessimism.

Assuming the gaps are filled and last years rookies step it up we should be looking at a winning season at least and a possible 2nd or 3rd in the division.

My predictions:

1 at Indianapolis Colts (L)
2 vs. Arizona Cardinals (W)
3 at Houston Texans (L)
4 vs. Tennessee Titans (W)
5 at Seattle Seahawks (W)
6 vs. St. Louis Rams (W)
7 Bye
8 at Tennessee Titans (L)
9 vs. Kansas City Chiefs (W)
10 at New York Jets (L)
11 vs. Buffalo Bills (W)
12 at San Francisco 49ers (W)
13 vs. Houston Texans (W)
14 vs. Miami Dolphins (L)
15 vs. Indianapolis Colts (W)
16 at New England Patriots (L)
17 at Cleveland Browns (W)

3-3 Division, 10-6 Overall

I think they are around an 8-8 team with potential to win 10 or 11 if some things go their way. They have to get off to a good start as a 0-4 start is not out of the question. They should be helped by the middle of the schedule. Weeks 5-12 has the potential to provide alot of wins. The last two will be very tough.

We are ranked 29th!! At least we have a change of beating those expectations!

Not sure how they rank the Broncos higher. They have a new head coach, a new mediocre QB and one of the worst defenses in the leagues. And the Jaguars have won in Denver the last two years.

I like how that douche said he would not rank the Titans ahead of the Ravens due to the playoff loss last year at home. Hmm, which team lost more valuable players, especially receivers? The Ravens, what a moron.

Also, ranking the Bengals, Chiefs, and Raiders ahead of Jax, shows how much he really knows.

Its all just a guess ReedNavy.  We see the predictions squashed year after year.

I'm fine with being ranked low - we shall see.  Sports Illustrated has a habit of going to one extreme or the other after a radical offseason.  Last year, we were their super bowl pick.

My fear is that we will go 7-9 or 8-8. Not making the playoffs or not being able to draft high enough to get Mr. Tebow. I know I have said this before, and some of you disagreed, but if we draft Tebow it would re-energize the fan base and sell some tickets. With blackouts looming for 6 out of 8 home games we need to make a run in the playoffs to ensure that we sell some tickets next year. I am not guaranteeing that Tebow will be a great NFL QB, and as some have said just because he is a Gator doesn't mean he will sell tickets. But this guy would bring immediate national attention, not to mention he is from Jax. GO JAGS!

I think a 10-6 season is VERY reasonable.  The Jags under Del Rio have had great years on the odd years, bad years on the even years.  Remember, we're ONLY 1 season removed from our AFC Wildcard season.  We got rid of our bad seeds (with the exception of Freddie, we will miss him).  Fans need to show up.

I'll be there.  Looking forward to MJD running over some people.  The arrow is pointing up.

I tend to agree with this.  It seems like the years we get minimal media coverage and there is no hype surrounding the team are the years that the Jags perform well.  Even though none of the "off" years were as bad as last year.  Let's look at the past 5 seasons...

Team History
YEAR  W L
2008  5 11 (Blah!)
2007  11 5 (Stupid Patriots)
2006  8 8 (Eh, another mediocre season; didn't we lose 3 straight at the end of this season to miss the playoffs?)
2005  12 4 (Stupid Patriots)
2004  9 7  (Mediocre Season at best)

Another odd year and guess what the Patriots have Brady back.

As much as I hate the Gators I'd rather see Tim Tebow with the Jags then that animal killer, Michael Vick.

The team was darn good in 2006. They started the year beating Dallas, shutting out Pittsburgh and leading at Indy at halftime. Leftwich's ankle got reinjured and the team never seemed to recover. They were 8-5 when Garrard had the worst game of his career at Tennessee.

I'm up for a Metro Jax tailgate group! I love the Jags and want them to win all the time. If I can afford some tickets this year, I will try and go to some games.

Me three on the MetroJax tailgate...

This years team will have so much new blood and my expectations are low. It will be exciting to watch the training camp battles by position and team progress over the course of the season. If we made the playoffs I would be shocked.

Deuce, I'm a volunteer for the Jags Champions Club and sell tickets. I get a weekly inventory from fan services of the best tickets available. I'd love to help to you get tickets!! Another perk of purchasing single game tickets through me and not the website is that you save the ticketmaster fee's. If you (or anyone else! :)) are interested my email is kristinlovesthejags@comcast.net

I'm also down for a MJ tailgate!
Where does everyone sit anyway? My fiance and I have 5 tickets in 122 row E. The crazy North Endzone!!

Man I just do not know!!! I want to see the Jags do well...but I see 7-9...I hope I am wrong. I hate that the Jags are in the same club as the Lions, Browns, Saints & Texans. We have to get out of that group!
