Is this to make sure we all know the whereabouts of the next First Friday or is this to warn us when strange events are afoot at the circle K?

not quite....if someone sees suspicious activity. a guy witha gun was caught breaking into a house this way not too long ago, by a neighbrors awareness and phone call.

whatever you do, don't shoot your sawed off shotgun in the air to flag down a cop, odds are they will be taking you away instead....

I think it's a valuable service.  Besides, you can opt in and opt out at any time, right?
