What kind of city does the people of Jacksonville want? I always hear how it's the politician's fault that things turn out the way they do, yet it's the voters who voted for the politicians who put them there.
I'm looking at this site and read about issues such as from specific to general (ie. Cecil Commerce, Craig Airport Expansion, Cruise Ship Terminal, Cutting All Taxes, Reducing City Services, Privatizing Libraries, etc etc). I also read about projects being turned down (i.e. Six Flags, Disney World, Commuter Rail, etc). So many projects yet all of them grinding to a halt. A lot of these projects grinded to a halt because of citizen's outrage.
From the looks of it, a lot of people want a sleepy town, which is ok, but it also has its disadvantages. For example, the St Johns River. Southern & Central Florida are preparing to drain the river to supply their cities with water. Both those areas have large amounts of people and a large economy. They, in essence, have a much more power and clout then Northern Florida. Why in the world should they be stopped from draining the river if Northern Florida doesn't plan to expand and grow and develop their economy? Northern Florida has a really tiny voice compared to those two areas. The size of that voice is usually determined by how important an area is to the state - which really, we aren't, compared to them.

I personally hate living in a "sleepy city". I'm so bored all the time. I guess there's a few things to do if you have $$$$, but I think we need way more fun things to do here. Especially free things
I would love for Jacksonville to retain, in general, it's sleepy southern charm, but not in the heart of the City, i.e., downtown and other possibly vibrant areas. Downtown should be alive, with bars, restaurants, and other attractions and venues for visitors, local families and the citizens, and loaded with businesses and residential properties. The core, which is usually downtown, is what sticks in people's minds when they think of a city...the skyscrapers, businesses, bars/restaurants and other businesses which support the people who live in and near the core/downtown, etc. Jacksonville really doesn't have this and needs it.
