Are they sure that Godzilla didn't wander by and push it over? ;)
I see other residential towers nearby that looks exactly like that one...I wonder if they are sturdy enough and won't topple over also?

wow...that's crazy! I mean, I've always felt safe in China...but I guess you never know. I'm sure all those structures for the Olympics were carefully designed and constructed, but for things like this they're willing to be careless.
Shanghai has big sink hole problems, sort of like Jacksonville but worse. Because of the booming real estate market, many developers put up condo towers really quick. Looks like this one skipped some steps.........
BTW, last time I heard some former big sub-prime guy is working for a bank in China now.........
talking about a disaster waiting to happen.
And these are the same people that are going to rule the world before too long.
Yes, they will get us living in "dominoes" apartment buildings, then nudge over the first one.
Jacksonville doesn't have many high-rise residential buildings, but there have been many various complaints about the cookie-cutter houses that have been built since the 90s.
We may not have buildings toppling over, but we have our share of shoddy construction.
That is just unreal. It almost looks like is was built laying down and they intended to stand it up when finished.

+1
And we wonder why there's lead in childrens' toys and melamine in baby formula...
I've seen plenty of trains do the same things on narrow gauge lines, but a building is just plain weird.

Wow, I'm so used to seeing buildings imploded as a way of collapse. It's weird to see one fall over and remain intact.
Guess it was quality construction in everything but the foundation! LOL!

This happened a few days ago in Turkey, one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.

Love that last minute roll, looks like an oversize beach ball. Wonder who the genius was that allowed the wrecking company to chew up half the bottom of the building, thus setting it up for the fall. You just have to wonder with half the lower floors taken out, did they REALLY think it would just stand there?

Man, that was one strong turkey... I mean building.

Pretty light on the number and size piles for a building that tall and narrow. Looks like pipe piles. No uplift rebar or concrete pile fill evident in the foundation. However look how solid the building is otherwise. It fell down and no deflection or crumbling. Plenty of skin cracking. But look many of the windows are still intact. Too heavy a building on too light a deep foundation.
I suspect you won't find any of that here.
