Title: 6 extraordinarily stubborn nail houses
Post by: coredumped on June 18, 2009, 12:05:52 AM
I found this interesting:

For those of you who don't know what a nail house is:
Quote"homes belonging to people (sometimes called "stubborn nails") who refuse to make room for development, often in an attempt to negotiate a high price in exchange for selling out."

Great find!  I seem to remember a Bugs Bunny or Yosemite Sam episode of the same nature... :)  It is encouraging to see that even China has property rights.

Great find!

The guy in DC was offered 3 million!?  I'd say he held out long enough.  Take the money and move to the Bahamas.

There was a story on NBC News about the home in DC a few years ago. Noble effort but everybody has a price.

Are the houses even sellable later? like that pizza one, it's dwarfed by the other building, too small to put anything big there. How much could you get after everything around you is built, and your land is unbuildable?

Coredumped, I was thinking the same thing.  Once the surrounding land is developed to that extent, why bother trying to buy the guy out?  Unless they plan to use it for a new entryway or pocket park.

I think HGTV actually did a whole special about some of these a few years ago.  They called it "Homestead Holdouts" or something like that.
