Located only two miles north of historic St. Augustine, Fort Mose was the first free black settlement in what would become the United States.

Excellent article.  Although I've been to Fort Mose, I still learned more about our local history.

Makes me even more proud to be a native Floridian.

Its surprising how so few people know about Fort Mose. Its such a great part of Florida history.

He was the founder of the Georgia colony, so technically he was English.
