As someone who's out and about...i want to get different opinions on Clubs & Bars. What makes them your favorite? Is it the music, crowd, location, selection of alcohol?
Lemme know....
My personal Favorites are:
TSI (intermission)
Steamworks (friday night)
Sq. One (AFE-Wed. Nite)
When I was single my favorite was the Pearl on Friday nights. I just liked how friendly everyone was. Plus you could sit outside when it got hot inside.
Now my favorite is Marks or the Ivy on Friday. First they are free and second I like the music.
Friday night is still fairly chill at The Pearl, more so than Thursday or Saturday.
DJ Ricky was spinning at Dive bar this past Friday and that drew a nice crowd, plus everyone was really into it. Singing along with the music and all. That kid has quite the nack for that.
I like Wall St in 5 points on a Friday night as a nice warmup before heading elsewhere as well. It's usually very dive-ish, but the Riverside kids brightned it up a bit, plus I usually like their music selections on the jukebox.
Shantytown's usually good on a Thursday night, with the elevated hiphop experience.
I know this one isn't exactly close to downtown but Tom & Bettys's off Roosevelt blvd (Ortega) is usually a good time on a Tuesday night after 9pm. Seems random I know, but ladies drink free on Tuesdays and they have dollarish drafts every day.
The nightlife in the core is improving, but I do find myself having to break away to Southside or the beaches every so often to mix it up because the choices can be limiting.
Poppy Love Smoke is great. Hands down, my new favorite hangout.

Steamworks is on Lomax Street, in Five Points.
QuoteLaura Capitano of the Times-Union reviews the new night spot in Riverside and talks to club manager Mike Kennedy.
The pub, basically a hybrid destination of a dance spot-British pub combo, was inspired by Jacksonville clubs of yesterday â€" The Milk Bar and Art Bar. While food is served there, what the club is basically serving up is a great place for the 18 and over crowd to dance, hear music and meet friends.
The spot has themed nights: Thursday and Friday nights feature an indie rock DJ and are the club's biggest dance nights; Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays feature "eclectic" music;
and Tuesday is the bar's rockabilly night. No mention of Mondays but the pub/club is open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily with $3 cover from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday and Friday. It is located at 822 Lomax Street across from Hair Peace.

The only night I do consistently is my saturday night. I start at Bold City for beers and a Jolly Mon hamburger and then TSI.
Anywhere I am I turn it into stupid fun and a party 8)
Barhopping in DT St. Aug is my favorite.
