I keep trying to get to a first friday in Springfield, but it keeps moving around and I'm never sure where it is.
I think this one is supposed to be in an alley along thrid street somewhere?
That is correct, between Market & Hubbard, 2nd and 3rd. I will most likely be attending myself.
It's the alley that runs parallel to, and behind the houses on the west side of, Market St between 2nd and 3rd Sts.
Is First Friday open to people from outside of Springfield? I am looking at houses in that area now and would be interested in dropping to to get a feel for the neighborhood.
I think you will love it.
In an allley? How does that work?
Garages open to the alleyway (at least 3). People clear out their cars and there is space to set up refreshments in the garages and to mingle in the garages and on the parking pads. Someone sets up a stereo for some tuneage. It's well lighted and in parts rocks have been placed down so you're not tramping in dirt.

Oh ok, cool. sounds like fun.
Hope to meet you there, Omar!
Keep in mind that First Friday hosts provide some food and beverage but guests are expected to supplement. The amount that is provided varies from host to host.

Thanks, I'll try to make it out with my wife this weekend.
Although I wish that it was any other weekend. Between Artwalk, first Fridays in Five Points (I will always love riverside no matter how much they yuppify it), Anomaly's fourth birthday party (this Friday as well) and the general business of the weekends it kinda gives everyone a pretty full plate. Maybe the second or third Friday to give people something to do after the first week events calm down?
Anyways, is it sad that I was kinda proud of a thread I started being used as one of the feature articles on UrbanJacksonville.info?

It's my understand that Springfield's First Friday came first. At least, I didn't see anything advertising the Riverside one until after ours was going. I always thought that they started it because we were stealing their thunder.
I attended springfield first Fridays back in 2005
Its a good policy to bring what you expect to consume. If you have a dish you like to make, its nice to bring that too. For me, I usually bring a 6 pack, and a bag of chips.
When we hosted our last block party a few months ago, I spent over $300 in just liquor (not including food, and other stuff) so it is nice to try to share the burden some.
Anyone who missed the party Friday missed a good time. The hosts had christmas lights and tents set up all down the alley and provided tons of good food and beverages. We had a blast and ended up at the Pearl after the party wound down. I actually had too good of a time and had to recuperate on Saturday. I love my Springfield peeps!

Oh ok, I couldnt remember if it was '04 or '05.
Friday night was a blast. we actually got the fellas who own the store at 3rd and Market to open up and sell us some beer. It was great.
Hey everyone!! Glad y'all enjoyed our hospitality on Friday. We even had two growlers of beer left in the keg...
The food was well consumed by all who attended - thanks to everyone who contributed - there wasn't much left at all. We also had to use Saturday to recover...I must have had more Duke's Cold Nose Brown Ale than I thought!
Our alley parties are the best!!!
jrtmom, you guys rock!
