Title: Skyway leaves many stranded
Post by: coredumped on June 01, 2009, 07:58:04 PM
I went downtown this past weekend for the tall ships, a really awesome event. Good job to all involved!

Anyway, I decided to park over in san marco and take the skyway. I noted the time on the skyway sign, runs until 11pm on Saturday. Good.

I head downtown, have a great time, it's about 8 or so and I'm heading back to the skyway station. WHAT? It's all caged up! I found an ambassador and he said they changed the saturday hours to end at 7pm.

As I stood there, I saw a bunch of others shocked to see the skyway closed.

Look, I have no problem with them changing routes, times, etc. I'm glad that they evaluate their routes to see what works for people, but, they should update their own signage!

Ok, it really wasn't a bad walk, we all know the skyway doesn't go anywhere, but still - they shouldn't leave their own signs out of date!

Thank you JTA...  :( I experienced a similar problem at Jazz fest.  Skyway was supposed to be free... yet the turnstiles were locked.  We proceded up the exit stairs where I used the call box to ask WTF... I guess they sent someone out to unlock them... eventually.

I couldn't get them to answer the phone, granted it was saturday - I didn't think of the call box, but perhaps you have to be inside to get to them:(

And, you want to give these guy's a hundred million or more to expand this system?  We can't even run the system we have.  Very UN-impressive.

I had a similar experience when I tried to take the Skyway for a 'joyride' a couple of years ago.  I tried to pay - TWICE - and still couldn't get the turnstiles to rotate.  I eventually just hopped the gate, but certainly not a warm welcome to the Skyway.

I used to have similar problems with it. I used to get the monthly pass to park at the convention center and my passes sometimes wouldn't work at the first of the month.

Or one time got stuck on the corner between Hemming and Central(by the BOA building) forcing me and about 5 other riders to walk on the actual skyway platform.
